The Fundie Christians want us to believe that Atheism is destructive to society using things such as Communism as evidence. Would some Atheists or anyone else who wishes please share examples of how Atheism/Atheists have been and can be beneficial to society.

I know there are plenty, for instance Buddhism, and figured it would be appropriate to shed some light on this issue of "Evil Atheists".

Jesus is Real, Most Christians don't believe this non-sense. This is why I specified Fundie Christians. I myself was raised Christian, my family is very Christian and I still visit Church. I don't like the way the Fundie Christians portray Christianity.

Here is a study that concludes that our less religious societies are actually heathier ones in terms of crime, abortion, and suicide. I put the link below. Countries with lower levels of belief seem to be faring better at creating peaceful places to live with high quality of life. As for some atheists have done bad things-sure there are bad people from all walks of life, religion and nonreligion. There are lots and lots of examples of religious people doing really horrendous things yet we are supposed to believe religion makes people more moral? People are people, believers can be great people and so can nonbelievers. On the flip side believers can be monsters and hateful people who feel justified by their beliefs for their hatefulness.

Atheism, being an ABSENCE of belief, is rarely at the center of a course of action. Philosophies are usually recognized by the ideas they espouse rather than the ideas they ignore.

However, it could easily be said that every advancement in science that arose out of looking to nature for an explanation of itself is an atheistic endeavor because each such search starts with the presupposition that a cause or reason can be found within nature itself rather than in the supernatural. Therefore, all medicine, technology, and psychology are assertions that to say, "God did it," is inaccurate.

Your question may therefore be so big as to ignore atheistic actions (acts that temporarily dismiss with the idea of god).

If you are looking for atheists who themselves were beneficial to society, Bill & Melinda Gates have founded the Gates Foundation, and they are both atheists. As a matter of fact, hundreds of modern day artists, scientists, business people, and authors are openly atheistic, as shown by the link below.

Since being an Atheist does not automatically make a person behave a certain way, I think you must look at the good done by individual Atheists, not at Atheism as a philosophy.

I have been an atheist since I was 12.

I have donated to CARE, worked on a hurricane relief drive, collected gifts for kids at a shelter, and wrote letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience for Amnesty International. I have donated almost 9 gallons of blood to the Red Cross. I've donated books to the library. I raise money for charities everyday by using "click-thru" links like the ones below, and by using Goodsearch instead of Google.

It's not about Theist or Atheist, but how you did as a human being. Even the Theist make many sin, and many atheist who live in right way. But is there god that you ever meet before?

I had a good friend who was an atheist and he was one of the kindest, most loving persons I ever knew. Accepting of everyone and HE NEVER JUDGED OTHERS! I use to tell him he was more godly than any christian I knew.

It's easier to follow links than to make a list. It would go on forever.

I can only speak for myself. I teach Language Arts at a public middle school. I knit for children in Mongolia, Russia, and Afghanistan. I give to charity. Mow my lawn, pay my taxes, and recycle. I do what I believe to be right. If I make my small corner a better place, it is enough.

There is nothing more beneficial to the individual, and therefore society, then reason and rational self-interest.
