Ack! If so, then they need to pay taxes... but Bush will get away with it since he's loaded the supreme court with his cronies...

Just what America needs more state sponsored terrorists. No religious groups of any kind should get government money. It's just a sidestep around the constitution--As the Christian-cons drag the country one step closer to theocracy. It's time to stop playing nice. It looks like we are going to have to go to war to save our freedom from religious zealots in our own country. Everyone is worrying about the religious terrorists abroad when we need to start watching the ones here at home.

I think, that if a charity is committed to helping (people, animals etc...) and does not discriminate by religion, then they should be able to access tax payers money, regardless of the religion operating the charity.
If the charity only helps people of a specific religious group, then no, they should rely upon private donation.

The broad answer is that probably no charity should be receiving federal money, religious or non-religious. Federal money needs to be spent more wisely. If the charity is tax-exempt, it should not be receiving federal funding.

Why not? They pay taxes too (or at least their members do). If we're going to regulate who gets funding, I don't want any of my hard earned tax monies going to a few "charities" that are just as 'religious' in their dogmas.

I'm a Christian, but I think religions should NOT use taxpayer money, and I also think that churches *should pay taxes*. Who is naive enough to believe that churches are not making profits???

If they can accomplish the government mandate, why shouldn't they. These funds are not going to fund religion, they're being used to fund public policy. They are being used in soup kitchens, drug rehabs, and other programs the government already funds.
