My ring is from Rogers and Hollands, which is a bigger company. However, those other jewelers like Kay's, Osterman's and Fred Meyer are all the same. They are all owned by the same main company meaning they all have the same stuff. I love my ring and the service there is great, they are reasonable on the price and have a lifetime warranty that is better than any one I have ever seen. Smaller jewelers will be less expensive though, I know this because I have been looking at wedding bands all week and have seen the difference. Good luck

The jewelry stores in the mall usually have deals. You can find them cheaper then. They aren't going to be cheap though. For example my wedding band and engagement ring were a set and they were on sale for $600 less than the orginal price. It also depends on the ring. Just a solitare ring will be a good bit cheaper than one of the ones with several diamonds.

Hey Bro, I am in the same boat you are. I'm also in the market for an engagement ring. Let me tell you, it's pretty sick how much the retailers mark up their prices. I recently was referred to a guy who has his own business. however, how he operates is he finds out what you want, and then goes out on the wholesale market and purchases it. It's ridiculous how much retailers mark up the price. For example, I'm getting a premium cut, 1.25 carat diamond (the main diamond), F color, SI 1 with a 3 diamond palladium setting, and I'm getting it for just under $4,000. Retial Jewelers are quoting that same ring at around $12,000. My advice to you is to find someone who operates on the wholesale market, and isn't a retailer. They are hard to find, I know (the guy I go to is by referral only). But to save that kind of money, it's worth a shot to do so. But do not pay full retail price, whatever you do. There is room to work there. LOTS of it. P.S. Jewelers are worse than car salesman, so keep your guard up

First educate yourself on diamonds. (The 4 C's)
Print this web page out and take it with you when you go shopping.
http://www.4diamond.com/4Cs/
Knowledge is your friend.
Last thing you want to do is spend your hard earned money on a poor quality diamond.
If at all possible see if she has a ring she wears on her left ring finger and take it with you so you can get the right size.
Stores you can try..
Kay Jewelers
JC Penny's
Wal-Mart
Pawn shops
1) (Make sure the jeweler lets you look through the jewelers loop at the diamond to check is 4C's and has a certificate or appraisal on the rings 4C's)
2) (Ask what the return policies are in case she says no or wants to exchange for another AND what the price for ring sizing if it doesn't fit)
3) If you look at more then one ring and want to think about each or go to several stores... Take a pen and paper with you so you can take notes on each ring (Store, price, exact ring inventory number, description including 4C's). This will make it easier to find the rings again if you go back to the stores and help you compare to decide.
(If possible ask the jeweler if you can take a picture of each ring with your cell phone so you can take more time to look at the rings and make your decision)

Walmart, Kmart, any reputable jeweler in your area. Ask friends where they bought theirs and what type of experience they had.
You may also try some pawn shops. The also carry new items as well as items people trade in for something else. You may check estate sales. You'd be surprised at what beautiful rings you can find there, then take to a jeweler to be cleaned and polished. Good luck.

Depending on where you are located, see if your town has a diamond exchange store. Rings there are usually reasonable in price. Also check an outlet mall near you, there is usually a store there that sells them cheaper than the department store. Becareful with some department stores the rings are too cheaply made.

Wal-mart, Target, Sam's Club. I just saw one at Sam's the other day that I loved! It was a set. Engagement ring and wedding ring 1.95 total ct between both rings for $3,700.
Not too shabby!

Try looking at pawn shops in your town, remember you don't have to be pawning to buy something. If you have no luck there maybe try some vintage shops. Classy girls LOVE vintage jewelry and there is something about an older setting that is charming.
I hope this helps! And remember you can always spoil her with gifts but your love and loyalty are more important!

Look around family owned jewelry stores and if you see something you like, see if they could better that price and they may give you a good discount. If not keep looking.. and kind off let them know that and what price you are able to spend but really go a little under....
If you know what i mean.

Go to a good jewelry store, nothing in the mall. Have a budget in mind and stick to it. The local small stores in your area are probably great. Watch for the commercials!
