I have a throat infection (I think bacterial in nature) but I haven't been to the MD. I started taking a very general antibiotic but it was not prescribed for me. Rather than helping, it made me extremely nauseous over the past couple of days. The infection has gotten really bad and I have to see someone.

The doctor asked me to fill out paperwork and on the paperwork, it asks if I have taken any medication in the past week. I have, but I wasn't supposed to be taking them. Should I mention this to the doctor or should I leave it out? It was just an antibiotic, so isn't really dangerous and I don't have any allergies to them. This was just a side effect. Thanks.

YOU ABSOLUTELY must tell the doc about the med you took. The doc needs to know everything and lying to the doc will only prevent him from treating you properly. From here on in NEVER take meds that are not prescribed for you or antibiotics that are left over etc. This is very very dangerous and can make things worse as you have already seen.

who's medication did you take? It's illegal and VERY dangerous to take someone elses medication.

Yes, you have to tell the doctor because if you don't he could prescribe something that could react with what you already have taken. If you start misleading the doctor you will create more problems for yourself.

By now you must have realised what a stupid dangerous thing you did so confess up and take the lecture the dr gives you and then you can start getting better in body and soul

Yes!!! Unfortunately people take unprescribed drugs all of the time. The Dr. wont be very surprised but the info will let him treat you more effectively. You must give them all of the information to get the best treatment. Oh, and don't do that again.

Tell him that you starting freaking out about your throat infection- and that you took unperscribed antibiotics. He should understand that you were just trying to help yourself- but it ended up taking a wrong turn.
