I'm not sure if that's a scam or not or if you got a shady baker. I might report them to the local BBB or tv news if I was convinced I had been scammed and maybe that would prompt more brides to complain if a similar thing had happened. But really as long as the cake is prepped and stored properly then it should be fine for the first anniversary so they probably just didn't want to add too many layers to your cake on the front end and figured giving you a cake on the back end would work out for them.

That really sucks... I'm sorry about the whole cake thing but, congrats about making it your first year! That's what really matters, though the cake is a huge disappointment.
I would just warn any brides about that place. I know somebody that actually stood outside a place and told people that were going in and coming out of the place that the service was horrible. In the end, they got their money back and a free cake [Because honestly, what bakery is going to want somebody standing outside talking crap about their service].
If anybody asks you where they should go, be sure to tell them not to go to this place.

Brides seem to be so vulnerable to scams because of all the preparations. My daughter went to a nationally known bridal dress company. The dresses are reasonably priced because the alterations cost a fortune and they never have the right sizes. When she picked up her dress it still had pins all around the bottom and they said it was done. We got our money back and took it to a seamstress. Her flowers were wrong and she got reimbursed for the extras she never ordered. I could go on and on. Every bride should get everything in writing, especially this free cake in a year deal.

I am sorry about the cake deal. I am sure it is a bad deal made by the bakery. Thanks for the advice and hopefully more brides will be on the look out.
No it is time to move on and enjoy your first wedding anniversary. The cake does not make the marriage you and your husband do.
Best Wishes.

Check your contract, did it say you would get an exact, mini replica of your wedding cake, or did it say "A wedding cake"? if they did not promise you an exact same replica of your wedding cake then there is little you can do really, they have been a bit deceitful about it, but technically they have broken no laws, if they gave you a cake they fulfilled their legal obligation. It's not very fair of them to do that to you in such a dishonest way

I agree with sparkley.
Did they say "a wedding cake" or state that you will have the same thing as your wedding cake you had when you got married?
I wouldn't call it a scam at all.

Well...
1. you should have saved your contract that said what kind of cake it was and that you were getting a duplicate top layer for free on the anniversary
2. No, they usually don't do the same thing with full decorations and all that. Usually if your top layer was yellow cake with buttercream you will just get slices of yellow cake with buttercream icing, not a fully decorated one with the piping and fondant and all that stuff.

File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and write the bakery a nasty letter. The best way to do this is word of mouth - just tell everyone you know!

I doubt if this was a scam or a shady baker. I think you were just dealing with people who didn't know what they were doing. In the total scheme of things, it's not a big deal. Get over it and move on.
