How would you spend your day off if you had two kids ages 4 and 8? You have no money, you don't live on a lake and you have no relatives close by. What do you do for the next 8 hours?

ServentofGod,
You shouldn't rip on me for my picture, at least I have the confidence to post one. I will change it if that makes you happy. And I was just looking for other options of other things people do on there days off. But thanks anyway for your un-constructive criticism and lack of thoughtfulness with your ideas.

You could go to the park, and take a picnic but if there isn't one close by, I would camp out in the back yard. If you don't have a back yard or the weather is bad, then camp out in the living room. Get some sheets and chairs and make a tent. Make a picnic even if its cheese sandwich's and fruit or pb and j's. Pop some pop corn, get the flashlights, try to make it as dark as you can by closing the curtains or maybe taping some paper over the windows. Tell the kids stories of when you were young, embellish if you need to. Sing songs, tell jokes, have tickle attacks, eat your lunch, take a nap and then tell ghost stories. Bring some crayons or markers and paper and have a picture contest. Bring some cards and play cards even if its GO Fish. At the end of the day, "police' your campground,, put everything back, have the kids stand at attention for "inspection" and give them an award for best camper, funniest story, silliest joke. Just write something on paper, like "AWARD FOR BRAVEST CAMPER".

Doesn't cost a thing, and your kids will remember it forever.

We used to do this now an again.

We'd have a pajama morning, in which nobody had to get dressed. We made a fancy breakfast like pancakes together, then tidied up a little before reading aloud for a long time.

Then we'd get dressed and pack a picnic. Whether we ate it in the yard, the park, or at the beach changes from one time to the next. We always took bubble stuff, a ball, and some more read-aloud books.

In the heat of the day, we'd find a lake, pool, or sprinkler, or failing that, a cool bath, possibly with cheap shaving creme to 'decorate' the tile. (Bonus: it removes soap scum.)

Last, we'd make an everybody-cooks dinner, usually something easy like spaghetti and salad. By then, I'd earned a glass of wine. Sometimes we'd eat dessert outside and watch the sunset, or talk about the stars.

Is there a park with water where ducks hang out? Kids love feeding them bread ( I do too ) Have a picnic, kids don't need much for that, maybe some cold drinks in a cooler. If you have a kite and theres a breeze then that would be fun. I bought mine at Family Dollar fully ready to fly for $1.07 total and it flys great ! Go park at a nearby airport and watch the planes land and take off. Thats fun for kids and adults. Is there a zoo nearby( Oh I forgot,no money) OR a Pets-Smart store? Kids like to look around in pet stores even if your NOT buying. I hope any of this helped. Picnics, playing kick ball & kites are fond memories and cheap.Oh yeah if ya want to be daring, go to a nice apartment complex that is a gated community and drive in behind a car going in and find the pool area and take them swimming. I have never done that BUT I notice people doing that where I live and a friend of mine said him and his friend use to go to a nice HOT-TUB close to where they lived and never got found out. Where theres a will, theres a way.

Make breakfast. Find the closest play ground. Come home and have the kids help make lunch. Work with the kids on a craft item for their mother. Kids always want to make stuff for mom. When the craft is done the day will be about over and then make dinner for the family.

So many things to do! Get out some different kinds of clothes, hats, etc....create a play. Go for a walk -- see who can spot the most birds, bugs, blonde haired people, etc. with the prize being 1/2 hr of whatever they want on TV or an extra sweet. Cook a meal together. Play games. Kick a ball around the yard. I could go on forever -- whatever you end up doing...ENJOY YOUR DAY!

When i was little my mom rasied me and my sister by herself, and we often did not have a lot of money to spare. In the end we spent alot of our time during the summer playing at the park and going to the community pool( it was only 50 cents to get in where we lived) You might also want to try to make up fun games at home. I always used to get a bunch of sheets, pull all of the chairs together and make a huge tent that i could play in. It might not help, but those are basic fun ways to spend a day when you dont have alot of money.

Play games that they can play.
Play with their toys with them. You may have to get down on the floor with them.
Make paper pirate hats and sail the seas to foreign lands. Use a bed as a ship. Meet funny people.
Visit places like the moon using your imagination. You need a spaceship to get there. Have fun on the way dodging asteroids. Then land and go for a space walk. Get back in and come back to earth or visit other planets.
Build a fort with chairs and a big blanket or two. Make tunnels. Have a picnic in there like a cave.
If there are girls you may have to do somethings they suggest.
Coloring books. Drawing.
Hide and seek inside the house.
Cut paper dolls.
Make a big painting together.

Outdoors you can find bugs.
Play catch.
Hide something in the yard and make a treasure map with instructions like 'turn left and hop 5 times' then 'walk to the tree and touch it' then 'jump over the garden hose and turn left'........
Make a flower chain.
Make a flower collage by pasting flowers onto a sheet of paper.
Do a scavenger hunt by making a list of things you know are around your home inside and out.

Do a search on Google for more lists of fun things to do when you are bored. I've listed a few I found below.

Go to the park! You have a lot of choices of what to do you could, take a walk, play on equipment, play basketball, or soccer! That should fill your day!

go to the park. play catch, dig in the sand, spin them around on the merry-go-round. if nothing else you can take a friend of yours that has kids of similar ages. that way you can chat with your buddy while having a coke and the kids can run themselves ragged so they'll sleep good when you go home.
