it's different for each ticket. The odds should be printed on the back of the ticket. If not, there are probably pamphlets nearby with odds in them.

Overall the odds on any ticket suck. You're better off investing your hard-earned cash in something other than lottery tickets.

I won $7.5 mill on a $20 scratcher 10 years ago. After taking the cash and paying taxes I cleared about $2.5. At first I didn't want the ticket because it was #15. The clerk talked me into it. I usually won the bigger prizes in the first 10 tickets. You never know where the biggest prizes are going to be. You can't learn where they are going to be by losing. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. If you go to the state lottery website and check out the odds you will find out that your odds of winning the big prize are a lot better with scratchers than for the draw lottos. That being said, your chances are still very slim. My experience has been that you generally get back about 50%. It's like playing a slot, the more you play the closer you come to that %. What I play for is that one big one. Don't buy a bunch of tickets thinking that you know that the next one is the one. Only buy what you can afford because you probably are not going to win. But you never know! If it's meant to be............... To put it in perspective.....if you choose 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 for your numbers in a draw lotto, your chances are just the same as if you pick any other combination of numbers and it is the same for each consecutive draw. It doesn't get any better because your numbers did not come up in the last draw. It's pretty much the same for scratchers. What do think your odds are of buying the right ticket at the right store? Buying a ticket, dreaming of what you'll do with the money, that's the fun part. If it stops being fun and your dreams are turning into nightmares because you can't pay the rent or buy food then you need to back off. Get help if you need it. Buying lottery tickets isn't the answer. I bought tickets for 10 years before I won and I have bought tickets for almost 10 years after without any big wins. If I didn't have that one win????? It's true. I won. But I don't know anyone else who ever won and no one that I have told that I won has ever met anyone else that won. Play for fun. Play to dream.

It depends on the state and the odds (which can be found on the back of the ticket). My sister just won $500 ($2 scratch off ticket) on a scratch off in PA; and my best friends brother won $10,000 ($10 scratch off ticket) last week. So it is possible.

If you read the back of the ticket, they usually give you the odds for winning the various prizes. Most accurate source for your question.
