Atheists do not believe they go anywhere once they die. Death is the end. People are supposed to live the best life they can in this world and be the best people they can be in this world because this is the only time we have.
Now what religious people believe and teach about where atheists go when they die -- that is a different answer but atheists do not care what religions teach about the afterlife since they do not believe in an afterlife.
Personally I think we need to love people now and not be telling them they will float in nothingness forever just because they do not believe in a god or gods. Actually none of us really know what will happen after we die and we should not assume we get the prize or other people do not.

There's no set place that atheists believe they go. The only thing that unites atheists is the disbelief in gods.
For example, some atheists may believe in a Heaven that is unrelated to the Judeo-Christian god, while others may believe in reincarnation.
The point I'm trying to make is that just because atheists don't believe in gods it doesn't mean they don't have other beliefs, spiritual or otherwise.

Christians and Atheists actually go into Hades or the afterlife waiting for the day of judgement. Jesus told a story of the rich man and Lazarus where the rich man was in torment and Lazarus was in what is called Abrahams bosom. At the time of our death it is all over for us to do anything about our eternal condition "it is appointed for man once to die, and then the judgement." Those who have been obedient will be in Abraham's bosom and those who have not been obedient will be in torment till the day of judgment. On this day everything thing we have said or done will have to be answered for and those who The Son will stand up for are those who have been standing up for The Son on earth. Atheists will be eternally lost--in torment and then finally Hell for eternity. The Bible states this. The Atheist can ignore and live happily here on earth--for God still loves them--but come their death they will realize that God is a perfect just God who says what He means and means what He says.

KWJ,
We will all face the Judgment of Jesus Christ. HE will make that decision. Just because a person says they are a Christian or becomes a Christian does not necessarily mean they will be in Heaven. We will all be judged for what we have done on earth. Hopefully, I will be among the saved. Those who are not will be in HeLL. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,
Eds

Only those who's sins are forgiven can go to Heaven because God is holy. If everyone immediately went to heaven, then sin and death would reigh there too and God would not/could not live with us.
Those who do not receive the pardon offered by God (Jesus) will be judged according to the law. And no one can pass that test. So, they will, unfortunately, have to take the punishment for their own sins.
No one has to do this! But justice demands it. I would advise taking the pardon..............

Simple answer: atheists go where Christians go: most of 'em six feet under and eventually either rot down to nothing but a scattering of bones or a thousand maggots have a feast. Dead is dead.

The spirit/soul of a Christian goes to be with Jesus while the spirit/soul of an atheist goes to the holding tank of Hades or Sheol, the place of the dead where they await the resurrection of the damned.
Philippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.
Luke 16:22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’
25 But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’

Christians _believe_ they go to heaven when they die, and believe that nonbelievers (which would include atheists) go to hell. If they turn out to be right, they win the big lottery.
Atheists generally believe that no one goes anywhere after they die - they don't believe in the existance of a soul, so at death you are just snuffed out, and no longer exist as a consciousness. If they turn out to be right, no one wins anything.
