This is an embarrassment. I don't enjoy being associated with this kind.

I agree with you. And what some of our Christian brothers and sisters don't understand is that these fear tactics generally turn people away from Jesus instead of inspiring them to accept Him.

For me and most Christians, what led us to to become Christians was not fear of hell. It was the peace we felt (feel!) through our connection to Jesus. So many of us, Christians and non-Christians, struggle to find peace, struggle to find a connection to The Spirit and to others. The knowledge that Jesus loves us, that God is concerned about us, allows us to live with compassion for ourselves and others. To live with a peaceful heart.

If we feel inspired to share our faith with others, shouldn't this be the message we share?

(John 14:27) - "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

Well, while it is true that many people are on the wide road to hell and few are on the narrow road to Heaven through Jesus, a lot of Christians don't use a lot of tact when talking about hell.

I can see both sides of the coin. Yes, nobody likes to hear, "You're going to hell!" But, if you know your friend has cancer, aren't you going to warn them about it so they can get treatment? It's the same with the disease of sin. We Christians want to warn sinners that their sin brings death (separation from God, i.e. hell) and that there is a way to be forgiven and have a relationship with God through Jesus.

The real weapon that we Christians ought to use is the sword of the spirit, the Word of God, i.e. the Bible. But Jesus talked a lot about hell, so if we want to be true Christians (little Christs) we will talk about it too. Besides, being labeled a fanatic is not so bad if you can warn some and save some from destruction.

Hi Mama24, Yes I am in full agreement with you on this one,as you say it is an embarrassment and also so off-putting that you are hesitant to even mention religion to others.
The Gospel is a conduit of life not death and these people are bringing terror and the experience of death where they should be encouraging and building others up.

Quite an impotent weapon, as most of us who are "going to hell" don't even believe such a place exists.

To say one is going to hell is passing judgement upon somebody which is God's job...not ours!! Only God knows where anyone will end up.

Of course it is used as a weapon and shouldn't be!

whats the point if you say it, we don't care because its not real is it, so it doesn't work, but as someone pointed out, isn't that the idea, 'join us or go to hell' thing is you believe we will right, so if you say it at least your really saying what you think, one of those things ou cant win with
