Some of my friends have been telling me that it's not good to do 30 minutes of continuous cardio (I do it on the elliptical) because after like 20 minutes, fat burning turns into muscle burning. This isn't true right? Doesn't it matter how FAST you do the cardio?

I read in a magazine that 30 minutes of *running* pretty fast would eventually burn muscle, but I keep my heart rate around 130, and stay at a pretty slow pace...isn't that all fat burn, even if it is done continuously for 30 minutes?

30 minutes of cardio every day is good for you. your body burns muscle for energy if you don't eat right and get enough protein.
