There need not be a "hell" but there needs to be a judgment, reward and punishment for Christian or Muslim religions to work. The reason is the concept of moral absolutism. There must be a God or Creator who is the ultimate authority of what is good and what is evil; what is right and what is wrong.
Without this, there really is no point to living ones life in an ethical manner. In fact, a valid argument can be made for living a life of debauchery. If this is all there is and no one is to be held to account for there actions, pillage, rape and plunder would be a far better way of life. Pleasure yourself as much as possible before it all comes to an end.
But if there is a judgment, well, that is a different kettle of fish, isn't it? It need not be hell as described in Dante's Inferno. The judgment, the reward, the punishment, they are what matters.

A sincere study of the Bible will show you that "hell" as a place of eternal torment does not exist. It is a fabrication borrowed from paganism and popularized by Dante in his play "The Inferno".
I have know since 1985 that hell, as most people believe it, does not exist. And yet I am still a follower of Yashual the Messiah.
Edit: Just because the Bible does not teach the concept of the traditional hell does not mean that the Bible does not teach some kind of punishment for sin.

Christian here,
Yes, I would, I now realize that God's rules are not to make us sad and boring, but to bring us true happiness on earth and help us get to Heaven.
I tried, but never found lasting or true happiness in sin.
Peace!

I would. I like my church and the people. My motivation for going to church is a selfish one. It is in a sense refreshing. Also, as an Episcopalian, I don't hear any fire and brimstone type sermons. We usually hear things like help those around you. I wouldn't go to a church that tried to lead or convince with fear.

Christianity is not a religion, it's a lifestyle and relationship w/ Christ.
And to answer your question:
If there was no hell, I would still love for Jesus to be my friend.
God bless.

No, is this an insult and why do people always think that Christians are obnoxious? Once you get to know them they are really sweet. I don't think Christians should push their agenda on other people just get them to be their religion. Just like Muslims: They kill you if you're not a Muslim. And I think that is wrong. Muslims need to keep to themselves and not kill other people. I know an American Muslim and she is very very sweet. She keeps to herself.
***But there is a hell so get over it.
***And you need to get over your self.
