There are no frontlines in modern war. We like to think that only the assault troops fight but all troops do. There are female helicopter pilots, some of whom have been killed. There are female jet pilots flying missions. Women are not in special operations units on the ground and that may be more from the inability to carry the weight of the packs that special ops carry, 100 pounds or better. Women are in transporation, the engineers, the MPs manning checkpoints, and that is where the casualties are in this war. I am not sure if you are trying to make a point about inequity but you are mistaken about what is a support role. The MPs are high among the casualties in this war because they are doing urban work and there are female MPs in those units, with some being wounded and killed. Do not denigrate the contribution of women in order to make an outdated point about total equality. An IED does not check for gender.

My neice was Captain of her Platoon in Iraq and considered the sharpshooter of her Platoon. She set up detination devices for feild mine inspections and managed an all men Platoon in reconstruction of roads and homes for civilians that were bombed. Went on Patrol with her Platoon and was leading the way. She is now in Japan. She has never been on a "support" role. There are many of the women in the armed forces doing the same thing. They are not only nurses and on clean up they are actually leading both men and women in combat, construction, deployment, active operations, ect.

Some women in what are supposedly support roles found themselves right in the middle of combat. Google articles about our three-week invasion of Iraq. You'll find the stories there.

They already do - and some of them have gotten killed in the line of duty. In the invasion of Iraq, as fighter pilots, etc. Women in the US military now serve in combat roles, and not just combat support.

RC78541 is 100% wrong. As stated before, that limitation was struck down years ago and they are currently serving in almost every position in the US Armed Forces.
