Deuteronomy 31:12
Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the aliens living in your towns—so they can listen and learn to fear the LORD your God and follow carefully all the words of this law.

Exodus 22:21

Leviticus 19:34

Wonder what happened to all these right wing Christians in this issue? Did they abandon their faith for the sake of their own bigotry? Great question!

Yes it is.

It is only a dirty word in some contexts.

Actually, it is only a dirty word when people are pretending it ISN'T that and using that lie to keep from paying to alleviate the consequences. The bill doesn' t address failing schools at all, and barely touches health care. Amnesty requires responsibility by the federal government which appears to think it is a good idea. Instead they want to give that AND increase going forward immigration vastly without in any manner aleviating the impacts.

What about OUR children, schools, hospitals, poor and elderly? Jesus wouldn't have forgotten about them.

Amnesty is only a dirty word when it's used by Americans against illegal immigration.
Since you brought up religion, jesus did forgive sins but he expected the sinner to quit sinning. He never said it's okay that you sinned and since you sinned you are going instantly to heaven. I was always told that sinners who don't repent go to hell.

To those who are truly repentant and have accepted Jesus as their saviour. I see no repentance or even the accepting of American laws and culture in the illegals. Amnesty is a reward and the illegals don't deserve one. Multiple crimes and the over burdening of all of our hospitals, schools, and relief organizations as well as open defiance to respecting our country's flag and other customs is not someone who deserves anything but a swift kick in the rear back to wherever they came from!

Since we were lied to about the amnesty of both 1968, and 1986

But as a law-abiding society we have no choice but to hold people accountable for their actions for two main reasons.

First we need to punish people who do things they shouldn't. We have to do this as a deterrent and to send a message to those offenders that they did something wrong. As crazy as it sounds there are a large percentage of criminals who feel they have done nothing wrong.

Second we need to protect society from these people. It would be just plain suicidal to just turn the other cheek and forgive people like Manson.

Forgiveness is fantastic but only somewhat effective and it will never work without remorse on the part of the offender.

In order for it to work with the illegal immigration issue the offenders would have to apologize, give back everything they stole and leave the country. I don't see any doing that, do you?

When its applied en mass with no investigation. Are you advocating amnesty for murderers, rapists and gang bangers?
You would have to be if you are for mass amnesty as proposed by the senate. There are murderers and convicted felons among the illegals.
Amnesty would be OK if it was applied on an individual basis while screening out the felons.

This is so close to the "blame the victim" mentality.

Illegals know they are breaking the law when they come here surreptitiously. When they live 14 to an apartment, they know they are breaking multiple health and safety codes (such as the risk of fire) designed to protect not only them, but their neighbors. They know that their sheer numbers are making it impossible to even monitor who is getting into the country, increasing the likelihood of a terrorist coming in through Mexico.

Do you think Jesus would say, "Yeah, just break the laws of the U.S., and when a terrorist poisons the water supply of Houston, I will forgive you and the millions of others who made it impossible for the U.S. to control its borders."

Mexicans aren't principally taking jobs Americans don't want, they are turning normal, albeit menial jobs into jobs Americans cannot afford to take. Regular Americans don't live 14 to an Apartment. Regular Americans have to pay for baby sitters, health insurance, pay taxes, etc. Illegals don't. When illegals need medical care, they just flood the emergency rooms and get free care. This costs legal Americans a lot of money. We are, in effect, subsidizing the illegals. The hospital has to recoup the money lose on no-payment patients, so they raise the rates for everyone else. What about the poor American who can no longer work because a Mexican is doing the job illegally? Where does Jesus fit into that scenario?

Before you try to paint a picture of illegals as some poor, downtrodden, saintly people just trying to survive, here are some facts you should know:

40% of all workers in L.A. County (L.A. County has 10 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.

95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

Over 2/3’s of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.

In L.A.County 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9 million speak Spanish (10.2 million people in L.A.County).
(All 10 from the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops but 29% are on welfare.

This isn't the kind of behavior Jesus would approve of, is it?

Completely different. Here's a similar but equally laughable scenario: I'm arrested and jailed for twenty years because of armed robbery. I ask my jailer to give me amnesty and release me, because that's what Jesus did to forgive my sins. Makes tons of sense.
