I woke up and my cat was leaning on my chest. I think he tried to suck the life out of me.

I love my cats. I have three, but this one is a troublemaker. He's gotten into trouble before. I feel like sometimes he gives me an evil look and a few times I felt like he was trying to drain me. I have seen that Stephen King movie, but this is creepier. He's a strange cat.

Don't be silly. The only way cats use to kill someone is by attacking with teir nails and teeth. But when they are tender and cuddly, they "remember" things from when they were babies, like cuddling up against each other or on top of each other, or kneading, etc. That's what your cat was doing, he was cuddling up with you. I have a bunch of kitties here and when they cuddle up you can't tell which body belongs with which head, plus you think they are going to suffocate each other, but they don't. Your cat doesn't know you are not a kitty too! He is just loving you!

Lets see, the cat has lungs about the size of a lemon and you have lungs that hold about a gallon of air - and you think when the cat climbs on top of you and smells your breath it is going to suck the life out of you? Get rid of the cat and get 150 pound dog if you want to explore that possibility.

My grandmother believed this emphatically. But it was that they would suck the breath out of babies. May be a myth that got started because of cats curling up in cribs with babies and the unexplained deaths, due to SIDS etc.. which were not understood at that time.

That's a well known myth that is not real.
My dogs check my breath each day to find out if I'm still healthy.
Your cat may like your smell, but cat's do NOT try to "suck the life out" of humans.

Cats just love to lay on their owners chests...

but it might have been saving you from a gnome that was trying to suck the breath out of you...

don't blame the cat

you should consider getting off the drugs. that is so stupid to say that your cat was trying to suck the life out of you by leaning on your chest. the poor thing just wanted to be next to you. doesn't sound like you like cats all that much so that raises another question, why do you have one?

actually Tim, that myth came from cats getting on babies chest because they liked the smell of milk on the babies breath. because some cats were so big they would end up smothering the baby accidentally. hence the myth "cats suck the life out of babies" .
