I've looked before but all I can find is pictures alone or information about them but I'm looking for instructions, directions or explainations on how they do them as well as pictures. (I do not want a hairfinder.com or any of those type of links)I want medium and long lengths for WOMEN only. medium to long from the 1920s-to the 60s. and some longer 70s shags maybe. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. Thanks!

Yes, the cut matters, but really it's about how you style the hair, and trust me, from a girl who styles her hair vintage style, it's hard. You are gonna have to practice and practice, and be very patient because most of these styles are not easy to achieve. There are so many things you can do though, but the styles vary greatly from the 20s to the 60s.

I used to have a bob like Louise Brooks did back in the 20's and it was fabulous! Now, I style it like Marilyn Monroe did in the 50's. Both of these styles are for short hair though. Most, not all, of the hairstyles of the 20-50s work best on short to medium length hair because these lengths hold in a curl best.

Most of these are not actual tutorials though, but pictures of women with vintage hairstyles. I look at these for inspiration and then attempt to recreate them by using hot hair rollers, and pins.

Well, anyways, here are some sites:

There are also books by Daniela Turudich that focus on each decade, from the 20s-60s for vintage hair, but these are out of print and very hard to find. Some of them are available online, illegally, as a PDF file. I have two. So look around.

Good luck to ya!

you want vintage hair styles (time frame 1930's) and then you're talking about the 1960's? which do you really want since there was a drastic change in the 1950's. The parameters or range you request is too wide.

Vintage usually is the roll around the head using a rat (a fake piece of hair or stuffing used in the roll) or curly styles or a circular mesh for things like a snood.

In the 1960's though there were hairstyles for things like prom that girls would wear with placed curls and in some cases a girl would wear fake hair to fill in and then curls around it. Yo can't do that for yourself, you need someone (a cosmetologist) to do it for you, and it could last several days.
The 1960's were the years a lot of ratting took place (backcoming to fill in the gap) for the poofy styles. Is your hair up to that and do you intend to spend hours in front of the mirror?

I have no knowledge about shags. Why not just be like the rest of the girls today and get a decent haircut and either have it graduated in length from a tad shorter in front than in the back or have your hair all cut at one length.

Aycora, the three examples you have given could look great on you. the appropriate thank you to attain them could be to set your hair with rollers. that's cumbersome to do your self distinctly in case you have not ever set your individual hair. i could come across a salon on your community and cope with your self to a wash shrink set and charm (deliver the pictures with you) it rather is a great adventure and could provide you some perception so which you're able to do it your self later.
