After ranting that to NOT give money to faith base groups would be a form of discrimination, Bush turned around and said that Wiccans would NOT receive such funding because they aren't "humane" enough. Talk about a first class HYPOCRIT !

He then proceeded to remove the requirement that groups receiving federally funding abide by all the civil right protections when hiring, and made it a special privilege for faith based groups to discriminate in who they hire. So they can hang out the "Jews need not apply" sign and still get federal funding to discriminate.

Supposedly, they can't discriminate in who they serve, but that has not been the case.

Actually, "faith based" groups have been allowed to receive funding before Bush was in office, but they had to abide by ALL the civil rights statutes and had to keep their social services separate from their religious preaching. In other words, no proseltyzing the recipients of their aid.

Thanks to Bush, they can now discriminate in who they hire, and dangle food in front of a hungry person, and not feed them until they listen to a sermon, prayer, hymn, etc.

Below is a link to a "faith based" organization that punished a Catholic man for not converting to Pentecostal.

Edited to add a link to Pagan charitable groups. Lori K, you need to do your homework, I googed "Pagan charitable groups" and this site was the first to come up.

Also, you need to read my other two links. Many of these faith based organizations provide NO social services, only coercive proseletization. The example of the Catholic man being co-erced into Pentacostalism while being denied drug treatment is just one example.

The same number of neo-Pagan charitable groups that have applied and been denied? None. Why don't they form a legal charity? I think that would be an excellent idea. More people would take them seriously. You can't complain that you didn't make the football team if you don't try out.

I did a google search for neo-pagan charitable organizations-----NADA. Surprising for a religion. WHICH NEO-PAGAN GROUP CHARITY APPLIED?????????????????? WHO???? I CAN'T EVEN FIND ONE IN EXISTENCE. PUT UP SOME PROOF. HECK, IF THEY ARE A LEGITIMATE CHARITY WITH THE PROPER TAX STATUS I WILL SEND THEM $100 RIGHT NOW. POST UP THE LINK.

People seem to be under the impression that this money goes to the religion. It does NOT. The money goes to the charity and has to be distributed as charitable monies with no respect as to religion. This money goes to feed children, to provide doctors, to clothe and house the poor and the like. It's not found money for any of the churches involved. The charities involved would be doing the same work whether the government gives the funds or not. They've been doing it for years on their own. The government money just allows them to do more.

Many pagans are active in charitable organizations as individuals, but Wicca (the one pagan religion that actually has achieved legal status) hasn't branched out to dedicated charitable work yet on it's own. Seriously, it would be a great thing, but it hasn't happened. Perhaps this question should be a wakeup call.

Plenty of neoPagan groups have applied. All have been denied. Bush feels strongly about religious freedom, so long as you're christian. If you're Jewish then it's okay, not great but okay. And he'll even stretch so far as Muslim if he HAS to.

But witches? Over his dead, rotting corpse.

perhaps, some day, religions freedom in America will become a reality.

I know that Wicca is an official religion but I don't think any groups received grants.

You've made a statement of fact without backing it up and then disguise it as though it was a question. In reality, your question would work alot better in politics section.
