Rajamangala Stadium where the Asian Cup will be held is in the eastern part of Bangkok, and there are no quality tourist hotels in that area. Unfortunately, it is also not easy to get there by public transportation either, a taxi probably will be the easiest way to get there, unless officials set up some kind of shuttle to and from the stadium. I've included a hotel site that lists hotels by area in Bangkok: http://www.hoteltravel.com/thailand/bangkok/hotels.htm
The hotels in the Ratchadaphisik and Petchburi areas are the closest to the stadium, with the Sukhumvit and Ploenchit area hotels just a little further. Even with light traffic (fat chance), it will take at least 30 minutes or so to get there from the hotel areas in Bangkok.

I agree with Margerat. The bel-aire princess on soi 5 is a great hotel. Only 3star but like a 5star in uk. Rooms are about £45 through some hotel sites and seeing as match tickets for the Bangkok games are only £5 for a decent one this makes for a cheap Asian Cup. A taxi to the stadium will cost about 60 baht (£1) from Soi5 and take about 30mins max

There is only one 4 star hotel or actually a serviced apartment near the Rajamangala National Stadium. It's the Eakthanee Serviced Apartment on Ramkhamhaeng Blvd. The price is reasonable.

There is also The Emerald Hotel on Ratchadapisek Road one block south of Lad Prao road or The Grand Mercure Fortune Hotel which is at the corner of Rama IX and Ratchadapisek Road. Both are nice and about the same price.
I would say the Fortune Hotel would be convenient if you were taking the bus. If you were intending on taking a taxi then the Emerald Hotel is better since the driver can take a right onto Lad Prao.
Both hotels are located near a subway station so if you wanted to go towards Sukhumvit, you would be there with in 10-15 minutes easily.
The pluses: Emerald Hotel is near many massage parlors. Fortune Hotel is connected to the Fortune mall with many shops and a few restaurants.
have a good time.
