I've found a strong interest in Aikido, mainly because of the mental thinking, that it takes years to master, and is non voilent. I have found a Aikdio Dojo in London, classes start from 30July. Does anyone have any teaching(wisdom)/history of Aikido websites, as i've been reading some and look very interesting.

Also im 16 ,slim, and in decent shape do you have any advice on fitness activites, as i know Aikdo is'nt very active, more slower

If you are enrolled in a Hombu affiliated dojo, then this might help.

By the way, you didn't specify what your dojo's affiliation is, the 2 major Dojos are Hombu Aikido(O Sensei Ueshiba's main organization) and KiSociety(also known as Shin Shin Toitso Aikido founded by O Sensei Ueshiba's senior student, Koichi Tohei sensei). As for fitness advice, either organization doesn't need you to take on special training prior to starting. The exercises in the classes are more than enough to prepare you for what's ahead.

These are highly recommended - tons of great stuff:

Everything from the wisdom of O Sensei to current events in Aikido - I also highly recommend you get a copy of "The Art of Peace" by Morihei Ueshiba. Right from the horse's mouth - It will give you a chance to make huge leaps in understanding when the right time comes.

first of all you need to be relaxed . you need to listen well and learn to understand what aikido is all about. Its all about harmony with the person you are training with. Aikido is good because you can train in your home by performing techniques without a partner and learn the foot movement that is needed. It is a very good art which you will enjoy every aspect of.....GOOD LUCK!¡!¡!¡!¡!

try this. i did aikido for 3 years and benefited from it immensely. you may think it is slow, but as you progress you will realise a good lesson will leave you gasping for breath. i was lucky enough to live near Sensei Williams, the head of the Ki Aikido federation, and i attended lots of his classes. he is without a doubt a true master and he will amaze you with his power. you need to clear your mind and relax. relaxation is the key factor in aikido. you will be learning in a mixed group, white belts to black belts. it is a good way to learn. most of all enjoy yourself.

all i ll say is concentrate well durin ur sessions and dont hesitate to ask u instructor if u hv any doubt!keep revisin n goin thro d techniques n methods taught coz at tyms ppl tend to forget or get confused.try to make sure dat u got the method right coz the essence of aikido lies in its intricacies+if u wish 2 maintain ur fitness level opt for yoga or aerobics(dance on fast tracks if u dun wanna join classes) hv lots of water n eat everythin but in limit all d best for aikido!

they are all correct. aikido is an effective martial art and is much practical because it is not a sport.
