In the 70's os's were pretty much proprietary with systems being unique to manufacturers. Unix was about the only system to survive to the present day. As far as PC's are concerned in the beginning there was MSDOS and PCDOS (and Bill saw that it was good, for his bank balance). In the 80's Pick, Xenix (a Unix derivative) and DRDOS appeared then Windows version 1.0 (which was as rubbish as Vista). From the early 90's Windows has dominated with a resurgence of Linux/Unix in the last 10 years. Often wondered if there was a market for a "Geeks Guide to Computer History" book and how technical to make it.
