Good girl. Stick with it.This next week will be difficult. The nicotine has already all left your body and the carbon dioxide in your lungs will have reduced. Also your blood pressure will have lowered to a better level. The yearning to smoke now will be from a habit and custom point of view. Keep yourself and your hands as occupied as you can. Clicking on here is as good as anything.Have the odd treats at the times you would smoke, a bit of fruit or a not too fattening sweet. Also having somebody with you to cheer you up and give you support will help. I stopped 6 months ago ,OK I took tablets to help me, but it was the best thing I ever did. You won't probably ever stop thinking about smoking but the cravings will definitely get less The big thing is to never give in and buy any cigarettes at the supermarket or paper shop when doing other shopping. If you get a real craving at home and there are no cigs in the house ,you can't give way .can you?Your whole body, your lungs, your heart will all benefit from not smoking. You will find you have more energy, you don't get out of breath so easy. You smell nicer and best of all look at all that lovely money you have saved. What will you treat yourself to? Good luck and stick with it. We are rooting for you.

You will never 'forget' nicotine addiction is worse than alcohol and crack for getting you hooked'. Cold turkey is hard, Patches and Gum do help as long as you remember it's still up to you. Keep an old ashtray and have a sniff of that when you fancy one...
It will make you remember why your stopping. The Nicotine is gone from your system in 20 minutes, hence the constant urge to smoke, try counting down the number of 20 minute intervals that pass. After a couple of weeks the cravings from withdrawal should be done, but your craving for 'routine' is harder to beat. Get a hobby go abroad or decorate with the money you saved, by the time you get back your routines will all need reshaping and the smoking 'gap' is filled naturally.
Good luck ((hugs))

Well, I smoked for a long time. I think it was 8 years to be exact..keep in mind..im 24. I quit a while ago. I tried everything. This book really helped me out a lot. I am not sure if lungs can heal themselves, but I know if you do the right thing now, it will help you.

Congratulations..... giving-up smoking is one of the most beneficial changes one can make to one's life.

However, research has shown going "cold turkey" can often prove very difficult. I would recommend that if the cravings become too bad then you consider using a nicotine replacement product as this improves cessation by upto 50%, especially in the early days.

The most important thing is to find things that take your mind off smoking, whatever that may be. Try to avoid situations where you have enjoyed a cigarette such as in pubs etc.

It will take your lungs about two years to completely repair themselves. The physical addiction lasts for a limite time but the psychological addiction is the beast that makes most people suffer.

Keep your hands busy, it is often the habit of holding a cig that you miss. Go to a smoking cessation clinic who will supply you with patches and advice. Another good way is to put all the money you would of spent on fags each week into a jar and at the end of the month take it out and treat yourself to something, after all you will deserve it, smoking is not easy to give up. Your lungs will heal perfectly, dont worry.
We are all in your corner and all are proud of you. Well done

Hiya, I feel your pain! Quit smoking after 7 years two weeks ago, cold turkey too! I've found drinking tea and keeping my hands busy (making bread and knitting!) have really helped. I'm still desparate for a ciggie but the main thing that is keeping me from not starting up again is the fact that my family and friends are really proud of me and I dont want to let them down.

i would drink as much water as possible, well about a gallon a day should do it.......dont carry around lighters anymore, drink some hot tea when you get a craving, keep yourself really busy, so that you dont even have time to think about it.....i have just very recently quit too, and its been only 11 days, but i already feel great, something that really helped me, is doing magic tricks with playing cards, it keeps my hands busy,.......i hope at least part of this answer helps....its tough i know, but keep it up, the longer you go without a cig, the easier it gets.......oh, and good for you to quit, good idea...
