No one can really say as it depends on his record and where he is. Most states have manditory punishments fo repeat offenders. In most states any combination of DUI, driving on suspended or reckless diving you lose your license for 10 years. Plus manditory jail time. And in many states a repeat offender is charged with a felony DUI.
Now add in that he is on probation and one being serious enough to give him 5 YEARS on it. As you know he has violated that and is open to doing that time that was suspended. So if any combination of this adds up to over a year of jail time it will be real state prison, not county.
Of course the judge is not going to levy more probation. Probation is for those who promise to not mess up and get a chance. Obviously this did not work before. So they are going to throw the book at him.
He needs to sell everything he owns and get the best lawyer that he can. Otherwise you will not see him for a very long time. Regardless with all of this getting insured or having any hope of getting a good job later will be gone.

If His probation was for alcohol related crimes, and he of course violated this with the DUI; he can be sent to Prison for Mid term 18 months or most probably 90 days to 180 days in county jail, fine of $1500, probation; in regards to the other county, his probation will be violated and he may again be sentanced; yet, they tend to charge them across the board and get it all done at once; both countys will allow one or the other to handle the whole thing.
He will do jail at minimum and the fine is a given; his license will be history, maybe for years to come.
In the event he violates a third time I can see state prison mid-term as almost 100%; in the event he injures someone in an alcohol related event I can see him doing 5-7 yrs prison easy.

It depends on the location and the judge but here are some things your friend can expect:
Jail Time -- at least 30 days, but it may depend on when his license was revoked.
Fines -- depends on the area
Probation -- likely
Extended license suspension -- Very likely the license will be suspended longer. Depending on the reason for the suspension (generally another DUI) then it may be for 5 - 15 years.
If your friends license was suspended for DUI, then your friend needs some serious help. Encourage him to join AA, if he hasn't already.
Also, see an attorney. If he doesn't already have one, you can find one at www.findlaw.com.

Yikes... In the state I live in your friend would be lucky to only get like one year in home detention or work release and it could be worse! Like serious jail time. Also expect one heck of a fine & don't plan on driving any time soon. Better get a really good attorney!

I used to work in a PD - and got to see what happened to people who were on probation - continually got arrested for DUI, etc.
I don't know where you live, but hardly anything ever happened to any of the people that went to our court system - it was maddening to continue to see dispositions that would come back as a nolle or dismissal (a nolle goes away after 13 months - and supposedly if you screw up within that time frame - you get dragged to jail for the remaining time - NEVER HAPPENED)
So, from what I have seen, it is not likely much will happen - but this will vary largely on where your friend is going to court- get a lawyer and see what they say

To be able to even guess at an appropriate answer to this you need to state what country you are in. In some countries he might get away with a fine, in others he could be looking at some serious prison time, loss of his vehicle & lifelong loss of licence.

I am not any kind of expert in this, but would guess that I would be correct if I said jail time for at least 2 years.
