I am a very open minded 56 year old retired teacher who loves all people, but I am sick to death of having to be bilingual to get a job. For God's sakes, we live in USA and our native language is Indian of course, but since then I believe English to be the main language. I have lived in a small OR town for 33 years, where the KKK began and so it has been very white up until the last 15 years, and that is fine, I love all races, but when I can't get a job of any kind, motel, hospital, dr office teaching anything that sometimes only takes 1/2 the IQ and experience I have because I don't speak Spanish something is wrong. You may not agree with this but how about when they add Russian and Swahili, and French and all those as is bound to be. How about if you can't text but you can type 100 wpm on computer. Discrimination , reverse discrimination, is not right !!! I want it changed and I will work on it until the day I die so tell me how to get our nation to adopt English

It would take an act of congress on the national level. Some cities and counties in America have passed laws making English the official language of local government.

Even if Engish were to be made the official language that would not prevent a company that does business with people who speak other languages from requiring that employees speak another language.

When I go to a hotel in Europe, the desk clerk usually speaks English. They get a lot of American and British tourists so it is good business for them.

I don't believe that you cannot get any job because you don't speak Spanish. And it is not that hard to learn Spanish, anyway.

By the way, did you know that English is not even the official language of England? Very few countries have an official language.

yes, English could be the language of this country. Ask Mexicans in Mexico, how they would feel if we demand that English be on the same level as Spanish

We succeed by refusing to teach our children spanish, and refuse to acquiesce to the illegal hordes in this country who thumb their noses at the english language. Shame on anyone who encourages people to take a spanish classs when it should be the illegals who should be taking an ENGLISH class (and a bath).

Thanks to our so call politicians that is what the country has become.. Our politicians say that we should not offend the foreign people, but they can offend us ... If we were in their country would they change for us.... I doubt that, We give the foreign people ,drivers tests, and job applications, in their own language because we don't want to offend them.. we bend over backwards ... and as far as getting a job, if we don't speak Spanish we get the shaft.. God Bless America

"Adopt" English??? I thought your official language always was English (or a strange version of English, lol!)? I'm Australian and this sounds screwy to me. I know there are a lot of Hispanic immigrants in the US but why should you speak their language? They should be speaking yours! I honestly thought that's how it was in America.

By refusing to speak another language.

By refusing to be forced to learn Spanish. There are OTHER foreign languages.

By enforcing our laws and deporting all illegal immigrants!

good question, actually a great question. i guess we could get some petitions together and pass them around. have people sign them. and then mail them in. keep repeating it until our commie president comes to his senses.

actuall English is the official language. it's in the 14th amendment, we are to speak the language our constitution was written in.
