I am out of cooking wine, can I use chardonnay?

Absolutely, remember the use of any alcohol in cooking is for the flavor. The alcohol burns of during cooking.

If you like the flavor of chardonnay, then I say go for it.

Never use a wine in a sauce that you wouldn't want to drink. Cooking wine is out, Chardonnay in.

I use a dry Chardonnay when cooking my beef stroganoff because I don't like the almost purple tint it takes on when using red wine; I've had friends who don't like wine in their food tell me they love this meal. Also, I cook with a lot of wine and keep those 4-packs on hand for the purpose of cooking. They're usually the right size and the price is right!

Chardonnay will actually be better than cooking wine. Check for seasoning because cooking wine contains added sodium, you may need to adjust the salt.

yes you can and you will see that wen cooking wines and chardonnay there is reallly not much difference
