Primarily parrots need a good pellet diet along with Fruits, veggies, nuts and seed. As a treat, in small amounts, you can give them table food ie pasta, pizza, chicken bones, spare ribs, rice and beans etc. Sharing your table food makes them feel like they are part of the family eating ritual.

African Greys lack Vitamin A and D. Feeding seed will surely give them fatty liver disease. Which shuts down the liver in any bird.
Some pellet manufacturer's have special CAG diets. But no bird should just eat a pelleted diet alone. The problem with some people, they can't feed seed in moderation or as a treat. They find out the bird loves it, and it becomes a normal ritual of feeding it daily or on a weekly basis. It's just like humans eating french fries, what would happen to us?
If most of us would use our common sense and feed birds with just a hint of it, it would go along way. Feed your bird like a child! A good balanced meal, without junk food and high fat foods, you'll be fine. That means feed breakfast, with eggs(scrambled) lunch, (can be some veggies) and dinner(what ever you are having) and it's that simple.
If you can't take care of an animal, please don't have kids.
Good Luck!

I feed my African Grey's pellets as a main diet. Try and get pellets that are specially made for African Grey's. I also give them Grey sunflower seed and dried corn but be aware that sunflower seed is very high in fat so only use it for treats!
Fresh fruit and vegetable are a very important part of the diet. melons, grapes, apples, oranges, tomatoes, cucumber etc are all fine. Don't feed avocado's, onion or garlic because theses are TOXIC to birds and to much leafy green vegetable like lettuce it will give them diarrhea.
Nuts in the shell are great treats and are fun too!
lots of toys, branches, good food and love from you will make a very happy bird!
remember- a noisy bird is a happy bird!

hi, yes fruits and vegetables are the best things to give to your african grey, pellets would be what your friend is talking about, these are much better to offer your grey instead of seeds, any vet will tell you that aswell.
Passwell parrot pellets or Vetafarm are good brands used in Australia, i dont know where u are from
With seeds there is alot of waste as they only choose their favourite which is usually sunflower.
Pasta, Rice, nuts, the list is endless
Get a good book on african greys or care of parrots
Provide cutlefish bone for calcium
Never feed avocado, this is toxic
Lettuce has no nutritional value
No chocolate
Dont smoke around your bird
Offer him natural trees to chew on provide thick non toxic branches for him to perch on
Remember to worm every 3 months
Good luck mate

Hi you can give them a good seed mix but as a treat more than a staple in thier diet.. I usually give a very small amount in thier pellets once a week.. It changes up thier diet a little .. Fresh fruits and vegies are a must along with pasta rice fish chicken and beans.. They love corn but you don't want to give them too much of it.. No avacado , onion or caffiene... I have to keep pepsi out of my Ekkies reach otherwise he drinks it.. Silly bird loves it... And the bisquits are good for them if he will eat it.. Mine won't.. Good luck

i have kept different types of parrots for many years and the one thing they all had in common was their diet. it consisted of a proper parrot seed mix obtainable from any good petstore for that particular type of parrot and various fruit and vegetables.
some fruit and veg can actually be harmfull to a parrot even tho they like it.
some parrots beaks never stop growing and so when they eat seed they are keeping it worn down naturally which prevents it over growing and thus creating problems like the bird unable to eat properly
if you have any doubts at all about feed then i suggest you speak to your local animal shelter or pet store and parrot sanctuary who should be able to advise you accuratley

Your friend is right. You can give them seed , but the biscuits have all the nutrients your bird needs. Anything else can be treat.
