sometimes i imagine she's here with me, so i won't feel the pain. i love her soooooo much. i'd rather have her more than any money you can pay. she's still in my mind over and over again. when i see her empty cage, i cry so hard. Now, it's affecting my studies. My classmates thinks i'm crazy, but, no. i just miss my dog so much. The worst part is, she had no babies w/c means, i'm here alone w/ no pet to cuddle (cries). i wonder if i will ever be relieved.

Aw, Sweetie, big hugs! I know this is not an easy time for you. Losing something that you love is like losing a part of you. I PROMISE you, it will get easier. You won't ever get over losing her, but you will learn to accept and adjust to the loss.

When I lost my first dog, it took me 2 years until I was able to talk about her without crying. It has been 6 years and I still wear her ashes around my neck and I had her choker collar permanently affixed around my ankle. That is something that helped me. Knowing I can take her everywhere I go now.

I just lost my most recent one on April 2. And there is two in between.

Here is a lovely poem. It always makes me cry, but at the same time, it makes me feel better.

HEAVEN'S DOGGY-DOOR

My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.

The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.

Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart that's filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.

But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
He's installed a 'doggy-door"!

It is ok and necessary to grieve your little girl was with you for a long time....your home will be different for a long time to come...my dog passed away 6 years ago and I still think of her most days and at times cry and I'm 44 so it has nothing to do with age either it has to do with the level of love and the deep connection you shared with your pet....time won't take away the pain of your loss ....but hold on to your memories remember her often and don't stop talking about her....don't be afraid to show your pain the way to ease it is from going through it ...I'm glad you have a strong family that supports each other this will help....In a while months from now (I haven't done this yet but will soon) get a great picture of your dog and her favorite toy and have it framed making a shadow box of memories.....I have 2 dogs again my older one was 4 when Chelsea passed and now she is 11 today and I have a 7 mth old Westie like Chelsea...I didn't get her to replace Chelsea because nothing could ....I feel for you and wish you and your family well....hey plant a tree in the memory of your dog or some bulbs to come up every year...the caring for some living thing will help you heal.....write a poem ....

I went through a year and a half of misery and grief after my 12 yr old lab died Xmas day 2005. There's nothing like a puppy to shift your focus and instill your permanent memories of your loved one that has died. Some people can get a new dog or pup right away, but I needed time. I suggest that you just let your mind, body and spirit try to cope with the great loss, and when you are ready, rescue a pup in need, and that could make you feel much better, knowing that you saved a precious life. The little mannerisms of a new pup bring joy back into the home again.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Good luck. A pup may be waiting for you.

Death is an inevitable part of the cycle of life. You need time to grieve. A dog is usually a part of the family and we all have strong feelings when a pet dies. Eventually, you will accept this and perhaps get another dog. But the old expression "time heals" isn't completely true. The initial pain may ease, but the scars remain. Still, try to picture the good times you had together and keep your dog in your heart as a valued friend and companion.

It's tough and you're probably feeling pretty terrible right now. People may slam me for this, but when my dog died (that I'd had for 12 years) it really ripped me up, I had a friend die a few months later and you know what, it was harder losing my dog...
Dogs provide a special kind of companionship that I believe is so unique and when that bond is broken, something just goes in your heart.
I don't know what will make you feel better, but you obviously loved your special friend to be so upset so I assume you had lots of special times together... Try to remember those great times, and if you start to cry, so be it, that's natural, in time those tears will turn into laughter and you'll have great memories. The pain never goes away, it just gets easier to deal with.

I can feel for you in your loss , I understand what you are going through, I have been there. In my case I cried and cried when I lost my pal, until there were no tears left. The intense feeling of loss lasted for months and now 18 months later I have got another dog..Now that cannot and will not replace my previous pal, certainly it helps but even now I get upset...So cry until you have cried enough and no more tears left. You will feel better given time, and then you will be able to remember all those good times you had together.

The loss of a pet is heartbreaking. The pain NEVER goes away but it does get better with time. Rather then dwell over his/her death, as hard is it may be, remember the good times that you had together. Treasure the pictures that you have of him/her -- get one specially framed in remembrance. Also, maybe you could donate a small fee to your favorite charity in your dog names.

I am very sorry for your loss.

I lost one kitty 4 years ago to roadkill. Getting another one eased the pain. & philosophizing that I wouldn't have been able to avert my own fate. So give full rein to your mothering nursing instincts and play God to as many critters as you can afford. It works to keep me fighting fit. Love / pity for dependents is the way to ward off depression.

I'm sure your dog lived to his or her ripe age, he or she wouldn't want his or her owner to grieve like this. I just went through this, it's very difficult, in the end I had to give my dog shots 2 times a day, he was blind from diabetes, and dying from kidney disease, we had to let him go.
