It seems to be since modern media and modern communication technology came on the scene, religious people just don't seem to get the same amount of respect that they had for centuries. If religions deny that they thrive on ignorance, then why does freedom of information seem to weaken religion?

Modern media and modern communication bring with it modern science. This science can finally disprove all religions as a joke, which is what they are. Therefore, the media can finally mock the embarrasments that are religion. Also, they were never respected for centuries, merely feared. People were forced to obey, plagued with thoughts of hot pokers up ar**s if they didnt. In answer to your question, we've moved on, maybe you and religion should too.

Darlin' it's an end times thing.
We were told this would happen 2,000 years ago:

Jude1:18 They said to you, "When the last days come, people will appear who will make fun of you, people who follow their own godless desires."

2nd Peter 3:3-4 First of all, you must understand that in the last days some people will appear whose lives are controlled by their own lusts. They will make fun of you and will ask, "He promised to come, didn't he? Where is he? Our ancestors have already died, but everything is still the same as it was since the creation of the world!"

Proverbs 13:16 Sensible people always think before they act, but stupid people advertise their ignorance.

Just cling to our wonderful Saviour and speak the truth in complete love to those who do not and perhaps cannot understand, and remember:
Romans 14:16 Do not let what you regard as good get a bad name.

Peace.

It seems that way to you, yes.

It isn't that way at all in reality.

When the jews first came to Rome, the Romans were instructed not to jeer at them for believing in one god. This isn't anything new... it's just new to you.

Religious people haven't really gotten all that much respect from anyone (particularily other religious people) in the past.

Hope this helps!

Some of you could stand to read a history book or two...

One religion? Not in the history of the planet... do your research!

I also think all of the "people are scared of that which they do not understand" comments are hilarious. Like evolution? Like thermodynamic entropy? How about stem cells? Give me a break with that crap... you make me ashamed to call myself christian.

because what they claim to be as true is very funny. if you embrace a religion then you get to make pretend about just about everything. you get to say that you are going to be rewarded for what you do but the people that are different from you are going to be punished. if you read about any religion in the world that is not your own you would laugh out loud at what they believe to be true, but when it comes to your own religious beliefs then your traditions are nothing to be made fun of because they are true.

It may just strengthen the naysayers. The anonymity of the Internet has allowed people to speak out without the fear of repercussions.

This is nothing new. How do you think we got other religions? There was one religion once, but people did not agree with one way, so they all branched off and made their own religion, (i.e., Jahova's Witness, Salvationists, Newborn Christians, Lutheren, etc.), but they all believe in one God, just in different ways.

Because people are afraid of what is unknown to them, so when someone doesn't understand your beliefs they find it easier to mock them! Sometimes people just really need to mind their own business!!
