Ok so Ive debated on this matter for a very long time because it affects me personally. the state does not recgonize marriage unless you have that piece of paper from the courthouse stating u are married. SO what if u are in a relationship for a VERY long time say 8 years as i have been and aren't married how do we know God doesn't see us as being married? is there somewhere in the bible that states u have to have a preacher marry u in order to be married thru Gods eyes? I hope this makes sense. its hard for me to explain it......thanks!

Jesus paid taxes, doesn't mean he condoned everything that Ceasar did.

Having a piece of paper notarized, authorized, sanitized, passed through the 'holy' incense smoke, trampled upon by the dust of saints, flown around a room by a troop of angels, sung in latin at high mass on the 12th day of the Lord's Ascension... all meaningless rituals, and more, if the content/covenant of the relationship being so blessed is false. What marries two people is the spirit within them, and the covenant it represents, not a ritual. The ritual is simply God being generous and saying 'all-right, already. If you need something to 'prove' you are married, then do it this way.'

God's not interested in laws and papers, God's interested in intent and purpose and spirit.

I heard recently that marriage is a promise to God and the other person that you will stay with that person in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, and so on. Have you both made that promise to God and to each other?

In the Bible, typically anything that had legal consequence required two or more witnesses.

I have heard that, in the early church, people in the church would simply announce to the others in the church that they were married.

That having been said, why don't you two tie the knot?

God bless.

sounds like legally it's a common law marriage.... but you have a good point... although if you want to be married in front of God, why not on paper too?

Actually, I can remember from my rehearsal for my wedding that we couldn't say the vows as practice with all the people watching cuz we would have been married THEN... weird, eh?

Not sure about Bible but if i were god and i really loved my creations i would accept two people as married if their hearts accept the other person as his or her life partner and they plan to start a family together

in getting married you are acknowledging not only to each other, but publicly, that you and your partner are to be together for life. sure, you could go out and say it, but that doesn't seem too official, lol. it's also saying "this person's off the market."

plus, having a minister marry you is the traditional way, so why not, eh?

The ceremonies were created by men. The documents are a civil issue, but also written by men.

Your belief in God and God's knowledge is what "makes" God aware.

Because without your marriage being official, the act of living together is seen as fornication, which is prohibited in Scripture. If you really love each other, then why not get married?

The Church needs to marry you in order for God to accept your marriage as valid.
That's why homosexual marriages will never be recognized by God. They will never happen in a Church.

The Bible says we are to obey the ruling powers, right? Be obedient to the laws, Right?
So if you want to be recognized as being married, you gotta GET married!
It's that simple.
Why haven't you been?
