There are countless websites of girls who were rapped by gans in western countries. Judges 19:24-25 "Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go."
Judges 19 describe a father who offers his virgin daughter to a drunken mob. When the father says "unto this man do not so vile a thing," he makes clear that sexual abuse should never befall a man (meaning him), yet a woman, even his own flesh and blood, or a concubine belonging to a perfect stranger, can receive punishment from men to do what they wish. This attitude against women still persists to this day and we have the Bible, in large part, to thank for this attitude against

The Bible does not promote rape just because it includes stories where it occurred. By that logic every newspaper is condoning rape every day.
What appears in the Bible reflects what would have been happening in society at the time, and it is quite clear that women were treated as less than men. But we should not be surprised by that, since women have been treated badly, even worse than animals in some cases, perhaps since time began.
The Bible was written by men, and when we get to the New Testament, we still see women pushed into the background.
Society has changed in some parts of the world, and in those areas women are now supposed to be treated equal to men. Yet even here women are abused and raped, and treated as property.
This has nothing to do with the Bible. In fact I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of abusers have never known of the rape accounts in the Bible, if they had even read the Bible at all. If they then look to the Bible to find justification for their abhorrent activities, then they are indeed sick.
If the Church is to be criticized, it is for not trying hard enough to change the attitudes in society towards women. Of course the men that rule the church do not want to lose their power and authority over women, but it has to happen, before it loses all respect.

I dont like to think that the bible is promoting that. However it is a historical document that reflects attutudes of history and a lot of them are women hating. I suggest you read deeper, past the violence and not so literally. Remeber women where property for a lot of history and rape has just recently been realized for the act of brutality and crulity it is.
To my understanding a christian man is one who protects and guides his wife and who id espectful to women. i like in georgia where reading the bible runs as a state pastime and Southern men are never lewd to women and respect every ounce of them.
I think your right when there is that attitude towards women, and that things in the bible can be used to justify it. But women are the victiums of western society anymore and a lot of christian men respect that. Unlike then we have rights, we arent property, we can defend ourselves from abuse and hate. women are eual now and if some backwoods ill educated part of the populous doesnt beleive that because they take a literal interpretation to the bible who cares? If people hate me because I am a women or inflict violent acts upon me because I am a women they will do that for any other abritrary reason.
Even if you dont give the bible credit give all the good and protective moral men out there credit for not being violent anamalistic brutalizers
Personally I am not a christian. But careful how you toss uotes around because the bible is an ambiguous and rich text that can be interpreted diffrent ways. Your question makes me wonder what experience you have had..........

Boy, you sure dug deep into some anthology of what occurred among the ancient Hebrews, if only to make a pointless argument.
First off, it's good that you ARE reading the Bible. Keep at it.
Secondly, you must understand that what you cited is one of hundreds of STORIES told over the last 3,500 years and written down by prophets and scribes. These are NOT the teachings being promoted by the Bible, as you correlate and suggest.
You should finish reading the Bible in its entirety and learn what the teachings are...
Peace be with you.

Whom do you think the 100 % Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient God to be ?
A Divine Dictator, who has special considerations for his kith and kin, the ones who praise Thee or the One who has some considerations for the opinions of Majority / or Mob as you may say with a Democratic Set Up.
In either way if you look at, the Q. is answered.
Just like the case of a soldier who walks into death sacrificing his life for the protections and decisions of either a mob or a dictator, for the Honour of Sacrifice and Pay.
Perhaps its not the actions, but the attitudes that are to be looked at. Of course, in todays world, where one thinks something, speaks another thing and act yet another thing, with complete disharmony in thought, word and deed, knowing the attitude of one may seem difficult.
But its said with harmony in Thought, Word and Deed, One can easily Judge the choice of right and wrong, perhaps not just peripherally, but also in attitude wise. May be the Ancient people with harmony in thought, word and deed knew this art much better to decide upon choices between life and rape as a special case of attention.
Its said "Yad Bhavam, Thath Bhavathi", meaning How the Attitude, So the Happening, That's why perhaps all seemed to end well in the story at last.
Here also it is to be remembered, "Ekam Sath, Viprath Bahuda Vadanti", meaning "The Truth is only One, and different Scholars interpret that differently."
Soooo can go so many interpretations, Ultimately, all these interpretations come to the point that God is 100% Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient and can afford to do or not to do anything and everything, either in a Democratic Way or in a Dictator Style.

The bible has never hidden from the bad parts of it's history. You are referring to the Tribe of Benjamin, who were later ostrasized for this, and also Sodom and Gomorrah, where the man realized that the men in his house were angels, and rather than offend God, he offered his daughter to the mob (who didn't touch her). God didn't let these two incidents pass without reprecussions however. These are actions of the badness in Men's hearts, not of God's.

oh, please. i'm sure it's the bible that brought that attitude up.
if there's so many unbelievers out there that don't read it (and they would have to read that specific passage, wouldn't they?), then how could it possibly be the bible's fault.
irrational, illogical, poorly planned. ima just gonna laugh at it and pretend that you were messing around.
