Really, you all can't be that hard on the eyes.? and what about the silhouettes, whats up with that? I like to see who I'm talking too, it gives me better possible insight to where this person is coming from. it's hard to be starring at a cartoon caricature of a person and get a better understanding of who you are dealing with, don't you think? I think a real picture puts the human side into the questions and answers. Logos are better than the avatars ans silouttes, but I would still like to see a few mug shots out there. anyone else prefer a photograph over a characterization? Some say they like the anninimity, aninimity from what? paranoia is a big self destroyer.

I don't think that people usually hide their identity because of paranoia, but people might not want their parents or co-workers seeing some questions or answers about sex advice, for example. I have not noticed any benefit of seeing someone's photo; it is the quality of the answers that is being sought. If somebody resolves your issue, what difference does it make what they look like? A lot of people don't want their face plastered all over the internet. I would guess that the reason people do not put their pictures up is for reasons of privacy and that seems very reasonable to me. Also, it's a pain in the butt to sign up for Yahoo 360 just for a picture; many folk may not care about Yahoo! Answers that much. I just chose an avatar that represents me in some way, but I wouldn't put my real pic up. And I'm not paranoid.
And to answer your final two questions:
I personally don't care what peoples' pictures are and
Anonymity from the millions of people on the net!

To tell you the truth, it's nice to be in an environment where your words and thoughts count more than your appearance. When I read questions and answers on Yahoo Answers I don't really care what the people look like. I think that NOT seeing a realistic photo of the person is getting to see the real "human side" of the person by reading his words. It doesn't have anything to do with paranoia. And anonymity is a liberating thing sometimes.

They do look foolish, but Yahoo 360 just took away the option to put pictures on your profile and I'm new to the site, so the option of 'use your 360 photo' does not work for me. I'd prefer not to use an 'avatar' but having no picture at all tends to make people a little less interested in what you have to say.

not a big deal anyway. this is not WYCIWYG (What you see is what you get) stuff. This is just for fun and if you don't like the avatar, you've done the right thing: not to use it.
It's ok anyway.

they do look foolish - but its just a way for ppl -- many ppl dont was ppl to know who they are - they could be asking an embarrassing question and they dont want ppl to recognize them...
