Don't. Go to work for a charity that does work you like. Starting one is costly and a pain in the neck, and then you get so worn out from paperwork that it's hard to do the programs. Hook up with a house of worship that has extra office space and use their tax deductible status until you really need one of your own, which is after you're getting $25,000 a year in donations at least.
