Hypochondriac ?? As in someone who complains about some illness but refuses to goto the doctors because they KNOW its a lie??

I dont think thats the same as having OCD unless; that is, in fact, the OCD itself. OCD doesnt usually manifest itself as a lie so I cant picture this being you.

Your thoughts, you do control. Regardless of what anyone else tells you - you can controls your thoughts. With practice it becomes easy. Its even easier if you can associate them with something else you like.

I used to count the fingers on my hands all the time, moving my thumb across each one as I counted, but then I started taking martial arts and found all sorts of different ways to use my fingers to make different kinds of striking blows- now I dont count anymore. Actually I havent counted them since I was about 18.

Damn it - I just did it because I thought about it - LOL

I dont know about what the psych say about OCD because I never went to one for mine - I just simply live with them...all the stepping on two cracks and reading everything twice etc...I just find it compulsory to be even.

What would going to the psych do for me....get me high on meds? who the heck wants that garbage? Would he make me stop reading everything twice? Does that even matter to anyone else since no one can tell it but me?

I dont find anything with my OCD as being so life threatening that I need to go see any specialist for it. You, on the other hand, seem to be very concerned about yours. It might be right for you to go seek some help. I just have this funny feeling that its really nothing for you to be worried about...only one true way to find out - go and see.

Yes i have OCD myself. What a fun time that has been through my life time , and still is. You can learn to control it to a point, but you will need professional help, when you do not use medication, and that don't always work anyway. Trying to get pass the really bad ocd symtoms, is very hard and serious work, and you can not give up on it. But it doses work.. Still at anytime even with medication, it can become really stronge, and feel like it is taking over you life which it is doing. Cause you are being forced to do washing, or counting, checking, walking a certain way or what ever, and if you do not do what it demands well it is going to just keep at you . That is the hard part to get pass, and trying to ignore it is going to make it worse. You really need somekind of treatment, or medication, or both, and that does not keep it under control all the time anyway. It is inhearited, passed down from one side or both sides of your parents. If you talk with them you will find out they had a brother, or sister, or father, or mother, that had it, and they can desible it really well. Some doctors today are also saying the only other way you could of got it was from having a really high fever with stripe throat when you were a very young child. To me this new therey is just that, a therey. They have proved it is passed through gens, and has always been and you can trace it through your family line. I know cause i have. Of coarse you know it is one of the most irrational disorders around and you know that it is, but you still are under its rule. So go back and seek some help to help the symtoms get better, and learn to control it most of the time without it controling u. This is not simple and i am not going to tell you it is, nor will i tell you you can keep it under control all of the time. That would be crazy on my part to say that, since i know what it is like to have it really bad. For years on end. But there is hope , and help out there, so don't give up, it can get better if you work at it really hard.

Hey - my strong, strong advice is, get the medicine! Prozac is cheap, too.

I have OCD too, and for years I refused to tell the doctors or get drugs because I was scared of the stigma, and of using drugs to alter my brain. But I got them finally last fall, and OH MY GOSH I wish I'd got them years ago. It wasn't so much the hygenic stuff - or cleaning, or any of the obvious compulsions... I guess those didn't bother me so much before; I mean, a lot of them are (sorta/sometimes) productive.

But all these little ticks and silly worries - things like peoples' chewing, or freaking out that I'd hurt people or animals - after the pills, it was SUCH a relief! It helped in ways I hadn't even realized I needed, but oh my goodness.

Good luck to you! I hope it all works out :)

I have suffered from OCD since I was very young. You can get help. It is real, very real but there is lots of help out there for you now. There are many medications and therapy is one of the best ways of dealing with it even if you do have to get on medications. It may take some time but don't give up. I wish you the best~

You can also try energy therapy. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a totally drug free therapy that really helps. You can learn how to do it yourself on yourself so you don't always have to be making appointments with a therapist. You can also download a free manual from the EFT site.

More info available from these sites. Good luck with getting it sorted!

Whatever you are obsessed about, there are many different medications that can be used to treat it and there are many forms of counseling that can help you. I know many people who've been in the position you're in and they were able to get out of it because they sought help. It's a lot more common of a condition than you may think. Good luck!

NOW is the time to do something about it: read page 7 at http://www.ezy-build.net. (net.nz/~shaneris) on OCD, and see a psychotherapist ASAP, as it can take over your life, if untreated.

Yes Socrates, it is real, and you are not a hypochondriac. Go back to your doctor right away and get into treatment. You will be glad you did.
