Water keeps you hydrated, while Gatorade has sugar to keep you going through the game.

Gatorade is full of high-fructose corn syrup, which in my opinion, is never healthy or helpful to your body! (High fructose corn syrup is toxic to your system.) If you're working out for longer than an hour or so, it may be to your benefit to ingest some fast-acting carbohydrates and electrolytes to maintain good performance. If you're weight lifting, fast acting carbs and whey protien is a good idea during long sessions, or immediately after a session. My favorite solution is a ripe banana and a whey protien shake. Digests quickly and does the job! Of course, if you're running a marathon or something like that you'll want to go with the type of carb that you'll able to take in.

Gatorade is better to drink after vigorous exercise. But as digestion takes energy, drinking Gatorade while would make you tire more quickly as extra energy is being consumed by digestion. Water more easily hydrates the body and helps more during exercise. Gatorade afterward is better.

Yes. I've read in a health article before that you want to start of drinking water so you're hydrated, drink Gatorade while you're exercising to replace the salts/sugars you've lost in your body (that's why your sweat has a taste), and then end the workout session by drinking water to stay hydrated because you're body will continue to sweat as you're cooling down from your workout.

Only if you're exercising more than a couple of hours. Otherwise, it's mostly sugar water. If you're concerned about replacing your electrolytes, you could accomplish the same thing by adding sugar and salt to water. Most people don't lose weight from exercising and don't accomplish their goals because they are drinking gatorade and consuming more calories than they burn.

water only unless you are training at a high level of intensity for around 2+ hours or more as it has a protein sparing effect then. which means it will help to reduce the amount of amino acids that are catabolized for energy if your training sessions are longer than average
