in God?
You don't have to ridicule our beliefs, be condescending and assume that just because we have faith, we're somehow idiots and less intelligent that you. We don't care if you chose not to enrich your lives and accept Jesus as your savior, that's your problem that you're going to have to deal with when you meet with your Maker.
So you ask us to "leave you alone", fine! Return the favor then!

And you call US "hypocrites"!.....

Your question seems to be a study in contradictions. You talk about atheists being condescending. In the following sentence you say "We don't care if you chose not to enrich your lives and accept Jesus as your savior, that's your problem that you're going to have to deal with when you meet with your Maker." I think that you should start practicing what you preach.

Yes, atheists, agnostics, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and many other non Christians do not want to be forced into Christianity. We don't want the laws of our land to reflect one religion's system of beliefs. What we would like is to be able to work together to fix the problems of this world. When Christians accept non believers as they are, maybe we can start the real work of change.

Actually, I've never asked a Christian to just respect my beliefs and leave me alone.

I don't care what you think about me, but a do care about teaching others the truth about their beliefs. If you choose to converse with me about our beliefs, I'll just make sure to take the opportunity to point out some details about yours that you may not be aware of.

For example, did you know that it took about 300 years for Christianity to develop the concept of the Trinity? There were many seperate sects of Christianity that believed in different relationships between Jesus and God. These different sects sometimes even encited mobs to conquer churches from the opposition.

The way that Christianity ultimately decided in favor of the Trinity concept is that the emporers of the Roman Empire (including Constantine, who modern Christians claim was a Christian, but was actually a pagan who built churches devoted to the worship of his father as a deity) got sick of all the fighting and chaos and called councils of bishops, forced the bishops to agree to aspects of doctrine that were decided beforehand by the emperor, and then enforced the new doctrine on the church by giving tax exemptions only to those who agreed with the emperors. Bishops who disagreed were deposed and replaced, often by pagan administrators who had no prior experience with Christianity (see St. Ambrose of Milan as an example).

Modern Christians teach that the Holy Spirit guided the formation of Christian doctrine. If it did so, it was through violence between Christians and the decisions of pagan non-believers. That isn't the way modern Christians teach that the Holy Spirit works.

You appear to believe that >all< Atheists are one way and speak for >all< Christians saying you "don't care". Obviously, some Atheists couldn't care less about Chrisitans and their beliefs, as not all post here; and of those that do, not >all< of them are critical of Chrisitans. By the same token, not >all< Christians "don't care", some are zealously vehement in their rebuttals and rebukes of Atheist posts and still others attempt to provoke Atheists.

Why do you, personally, choose to generalize about >all< Chrisitans and >all< Atheists? I don't believe you know >all< of either group, or even enough of them to actually make the statements you've made. I know some do, I know some don't, I base this on the questions and answers I have seen on this board. But neither group deserves to be grouped into an >all< category based on the words & actions of select people who do as you describe.

I do leave you alone, until you call me out into answering a question like you just did here. Now who's the hypocrite? It's not my fault if you don't have a sense of humor. I try to answer questions with a little humor and lightness. Sometimes people need to laugh at themselves every so often. I'm willing to listen to you talk about your faith. And I don't mind if you believe in a god. That's just fine with me. But it's when you try to force your beliefs on others and when you try to oppress people you don't agree with and pass laws supporting your way of believing that I mind.

Hey it's not the Atheists that knock on my door at 8 AM Saturday morning trying to save me. When I closed down the bar, had way too much to drink the night before and have only been home a couple of hours. I see churches everywhere I go if I wanted to go I would stop by.

Your "god" is on the money, it's in the pledge, it's in court & it's on my body by way of the laws put into place by believers & for believers, no matter what anyone else thinks or believes.

When all that goes away... I'll stop defending my right to speak out against the harmful poison that is religion.

"The admission that no one really knows the true God behind all these images leads to an understanding that human beings can only pursue the truth and not "possess" it, as many religious zealots claim to do. Pursuit implies humility, acceptance, openness, and appreciation, while possession suggests arrogance, close mindedness, and lack of appreciation. Herein lies the rub: if we persist in competing to possess the truth instead of working in unity to pursue it, we are going to face untold grief-and worse, violence." - Arun Gandhi

Because... RELIGION ... IS ... D A N G E R O U S !

“There was a time when religion ruled the world. It is known as the Dark Ages.” -- Ruth Hurmence Green

“We have just enough religion to make us hate, but not enough to make us love each other.” -- Jonathan Swift

“Many of us saw religion as harmless nonsense. Beliefs might lack all supporting evidence but, we thought, if people needed a crutch for consolation, where's the harm? September 11th changed all that.” – Richard Dawkins

“I am against religion because it teaches us to be satisfied with not understanding the world.” – Richard Dawkins

“To no form of religion is woman indebted for one impulse of freedom.” -- Susan B Anthony

“Every injustice that has ever been fastened upon women in a Christian country has been "authorized by the Bible" and riveted and perpetuated by the pulpit.” -- Helen H Gardener

“The religious persecution of women has been done under what was claimed to be the command of God.” -- Susan B Anthony

“With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.” – Steven Weinberg (1933 - ), The New York Times, April 20, 1999

Ha, ha. Atheists don't care if you believe in the tooth fairy. However, you might notice that atheists are not running around trying to make laws that force theists to behave as atheists desire. It is the goofball theists who are doing that. So do not whine about atheists, but look at how selfish christians are.

Actually you do care.
Which is why people like you try to push your religious beliefs into the education system and legislation.
Stop doing that and keep your beliefs to yourself and you will be left alone
