Nope, as long as your dog has enough room to lay down comfortably and turn around, it is fine. If your dog has bladder issues and cannot "hold it" for that long, it may be an issue, but if that's not a problem, then crate training is the best thing ever! My dogs love their crates and will actually go sleep and play in them when we're home, and they're roaming free. The crate becomes the dog's den, so it's a safe place to go be alone, or just to take a toy to chew on. Good luck with the training!

Yes if you just started and the dog hates it still, but if the dog is ok being in the crate then that's fine.
