Sorry if there's been a post like this before, but I just wanted to give my opinion.
And please, if your going to read it, read all of it.
First off, I support the troops and I love my country (but we can do some stupid stuff.) so don't give me any of that unpatriotic crap.
I don't see why we invaded Iraq. Do you really think the "ruthless" dictator Sadam would want terrorists coming into his country and undermining his government? He would have killed any terrorists on the spot. We needed to invade Afghanistan were we knew there were taliban.
So anyway, we invade Iraq and take down their "horrible government" and know you guys want to leave them without any government at all?! What do think is going to happen to them? Since we took their gov. and way of life style away, (along with all the civilians dead) its our obligation to make sure they have some civil order and economy by the time we leave.
Plus, if we leave iraq without a gov. its going to be a breeding ground for "terrorists" (OH GOD NO!!!) So that would make going into Iraq in the first place a waste of money and lives.

edited :Thanks everybody for your opinions! Iraq is probably in too bad a state to get back now, so yeah, it might be an idea to get out now. There's no doubt that this wars going to go down in history as a total catastrophe.
And skippy, there IS government in Iraq you say? Then why the hell are is our military having to act as a police force? If there's a govnment in Iraq then why the hell are Americans still dying? How do I not support our brave men and women? Because I don't mindlessly believe whatever Bush spews out his a**? But why do I bother, its not like you're going to care what I say, right? If I don't get along with the Bush's program I'm unpartriotic right? Just keep telling yourself the war's going along fine, whatever lets you sleep at night. :-)

Oh and I'm sorry if I gave off the impression that there are only terrorist in Afghanistan, I don't. It's just that is where we've known Osama (don't here that name often do you? hmmmm.) has been and we should have started our investigation there.

Bushiekins put the US in Iraq because he wanted to fight "Tara," Scarlett O'Hara's ancestral home. He just wanted a reason to keep on saying "nu-cu-lar," despite being corrected over a million times!

If you stay any longer, there will only be more sorrow. Why not melt all your tanks, guns and stuff into agriculture equipment and help the Iraqi people grow some food and get back on it's feet... Help the Iraqi people rebuild their infrastructure and homes and stuff like that... You know.. So they can find food in their stores and things they need... You know, if you send a bunch off camouflage dressed clowns around in their country, it doesn't exactly turn around the popularity for the terrorists. hell, I would probably have retaliated against a foreign force myself if I was a Iraqi citizen... Anyways, from what I've have heard most of the soldiers sent from the US is teenage farmer boys that is to young to kill anybody anyway... Do you really think they WANT to be there?

I'm not debating how the U.S. got involved in invading Iraq, as there are a plethora of reports out there about this already.
However, it would be utterly foolish to leave now. I think you realize this, too, but let me elaborate on your point. Why would Iraq be a "breeding ground for terrorists"? Allow me to count the ways for you.
1) After bombing their infrastructure silly, should we leave before the infrastructure is back in place, that's going to leave a lot of very unhappy Iraqis. Who will they be unhappy towards? With Saddam, they had electricity 24/7, so you can guess who the Iraqis will blame—the 'Infidels.'
2) Let's discuss that term, Infidels. This is terminology that highlights how badly our troops are perceived in Iraq. There's no way to counter this religious hatred other than propaganda. Propaganda can only be implemented if we stay, so you see, as it can alleviate the extremely salty view of our troops IF our troops stay long enough to grow on Iraqis; long enough to build relationships with Iraqis; long enough for Iraqi-American babies to be born; long enough for Iraqis to learn English and for our troops to speak Iraqi, etc.
To further illustrate this point, consider Korea, where we still have a military presence. Koreans are taught English in school: the same place we learn to love our country, no? That's not by mistake that this happens. Public schools are patriotism plates of apple pie, on a street lined with gold. English is la lengua franca; it breeds commerce.
3) If our troops left now, or soon, then any Iraqi that ever supported any Western notions will be executed. The new government would collapse immediately, and ethnic cleansing would ensue based on historical religious differences. There would be a very uncivil civil war, in other words. The U.S. would be the bad guy that started that mess, and people all over the world hate Americans even more than they do now.
[I don't know about you, but I like to travel.]
Let's not forget all the civilians that are working to rebuild the infrastructure in Iraq. If the troops were to leave, what would they do?
If the troops built long-term bases, however, that will tell Iraqis that they plan to stick around. As they repair (or, better, upgrade) the infrastructure, that will tell Iraqis that we're not leaving their country a total wreck, which should please them. Meanwhile, our troops are spending money in Iraq, and everyone likes that, surely.
4) As time proceeds with our troops in Iraq, security will improve. As security improves, businesses can stay open and so can schools [Can you guess what they'll be teaching?].
Finally, we haven't left Korea and we haven't left Afghanistan, so why would we leave Iraq?

Unfortunatelly we are still over there, but I believe that we are still fighting terrorists over there and we can't just walk out and leaave those people helpless.
I am a 100% Disabled Veteran so my pride may be blocking my feelings toward this situitation. I believe we should pull our troops to the outer surroundings and bomb the hell out of the whole country. End of story and our soldiers will never have to fight over there again.
It may seem mean for me to say that but I will never forget 911, or the OKC bombing etc...
That is the problem with this country today, they are only worried about money and are worried that their kid, husband/wife, brother/sister, boy/girl friend may get killed over there.
What about the individuals that died during the 911? Their families had no clue that their love ones where going to be killed that day, it just happened.
News Flash for those of you who joined the military thinking you will get a college education first and then get out. It doesn't work that way, military personnel put their lives on the line for us everyday. When you sign up you swore on the American Flag/Bible that you will FIGHT and SERVE YOUR COUNTRY untill your End of Time of Service.
Our military personnel are doing the best they can while they are over there and we all need to stop bickering and start encouraging our soldiers by showing support amongst each other.

Terrorists can go to Iran, Syria, Libya, etc etc
Afghanistan and Iraq are not their only hang outs.
If Iraqis were here trying to sort out our government, I'd be bombing there asses...so I can't blame the person who normally leads a productive life getting involved in trying to convince Americans to leave.
I hate that our soldiers had to die because Saddam was gassing Kurds and invading Kuwait.
We took care of that. That is no longer happening.
Most of those terrorists in 9/11 got flight training in the U.S., not Iraq.
Lets get out of there and let the Iraqi military and police and some militias help stop uprisings and sectarianism.
Let them have their civil war and spill there own blood. That is their choice.
If they attack an ally country, or aid terrorists, then we wipe them out, not now.

So the question comes down to this; How long do you stay in a Taxi- who's driver doesn't know where he's going, you're running out of time & pacience, and the meter continues to "run" ??? The bottom line IS; whether it's money, lives, or collateral damage, the longer the situation goes on, the smaller the "return" you're going to get for your trouble...-therefore REDUCING the value of everything you sank into it. Sure we created this mess...-but how long should we continue to keep it going when it continues to look like there's NO END in sight? And HOW are we stopping terrorism in Iraq NOW- when they're "perfecting their craft"- on our Soldiers??? You mean we leave our guys there for "target practice" -and HOPE Al-Queda doesn't get "bored"- and go elsewhere to try out their new & improved bomb making techniques on "soft targets" -near YOU & ME ??! The bottom line IS, that soft "ticking" everyone senses- is the sound of "TIME RUNNING OUT" for America on this Issue. And it would be the most TRAGIC cruelty of them ALL- if one day SOON- we wake up under an even BIGGER terrorist attack- and all our BEST troops- are still bottled up in Iraq. (& can you IMAGINE how our poor guys are going to feel- when they're gatherd around some poor Iraqi's TV- watching their own HOMES under threat- while they're scrolling "America Under Seige"- along the bottom ? WHO are we going to blame for THAT?

I agreed that we needed to go, but it is well overdue that we get the hell out of there! There are too many young guys dying over there. It seems as if they are just recycling the same guys. Give them a break! They have done thier time! They go for a year or so, come back a few months, then they are gone again.
If anybody, we need to find Bin Ladin. You rarely hear about that anymore, but we do not need to keep sending the same kids back time after time.
IT HAS BEEN WHAT 6 YEARS? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! The kids they are sending over now to fight this war were 12 yrs. old when this started.

Your facts are all jumbled and wrong. Do a little research and think things through before you tip up your soapbox. There really is no point to any of your reasons, because you are so misguided.
If you support the troops, then you must support what they are there to accomplish. Ever "supported" your favorite sports team to get off the field and go home the looser? Or did you support them to the end, and cheer them on and believe that they can win?
There is a government in Iraq, and they don't want us to leave. Do yourself a favor, and learn your topic better.

The current situation is getting nowhere. We need more forces to stabilize the country.
We will not send more forces. I'm talking the 300k we should have started with.
If we aren't willing to do it RIGHT, we may as well give up now and at least spare the pointless deaths of our troops. Leave some to train the Iraqi gov't forces and hope for a miracle to cover our stupidity.

I thought the whole crazy idea of arranging an away game with Al-Quaida in Iraq was so the terrorists didn't "follow us here" and attack the homeland.
They will continue to try, whether or not there is a US or international presence in Iraq. I hope those efforts continue to be thwarted, in the meantime we are giving partially-trained insurgents the urban guerilla warfare experience they lack, and on their own turf too!

Millitary commanders on the ground say we're going to start drawing down anyway. Any achievements that were possible would have happened before now. Bonus points for remembering these turning points proclaimed by Bush- Handover of soveriegnty, capture of Saddam, execution of Saddam, storming of Fallujah, election of Prime Minister, Parliamentary elections, killing of Zarkawi.
Nothing has worked, nothing will work, the surge wont work, Bush doesnt understand anything, we have already lost, we should pull out but wont, end of story.
