I've been hearing they are at 12 Million members worldwide for about 10 years now. I've also seen statistics (non-lds ones) that show the number of members leaving - it's staggering. But since the LDS church still includes "ex Mormons" in its membership numbers, it's hard to get a real perspective on this situation.

Does anybody know the answer here?

I added up all the numbers from the cumorah project, www.cumorah.com, a pro-lds site, not too long ago.
I don't remember exact numbers, but I think it was right around 5 million active members. 13,000,000 total members.

Although, after adding up the numbers and posting them on message boards, people from other countries were saying those numbers were way too high. (specifically I remember Turkey and Poland being exaggerated by a large amount, and Korea has zero active members)

THe way you word the question, makes it seem like you are really asking are more people leaving the church than joining. That would actually be declining. And I would say no to that. We ARE in the last days, I believe at some point there will be Mormons and there will be non-Mormons and that will be it. There won't be Baptists and Born Agains and Catholics and SDA and JW, etc. It will be a member of Christ's church or no church. Probably during the millenium - although we won't really be called Mormons because Christ will be leading the CHurch then... that's my own opinion, not doctrine. I do think the internet is playing a part in people leaving the church. Because when people start to question, and they don't go to God with those questions, they are left to anyone out there who has ANY answer. And there are plenty on the internet that are 100% wrong. THere is not one site out there against the LDS that has 100% true information about us. Even if there is 99% truth, there is still 1% lie, so I don't know how people can feel as though those kind of sites are credible. Oh well, whole different subject. But, I do firmly believe that is how satan works, he will tell you 99 truths to get you to believe 1 lie. The church will continue to grow, the membership will continue to grow, and the gospel will spread to the whole earth before the Savior comes again. That's prophecy and it will happen. IF you think about it, "growth" can be one member per year, one temple per year, one church building per year... I mean really... who's to say how much "Growth" is "growth"??

I am not sure of the exact numbers either but I live in a community with a high mormon population and have met as many ex mormons as I have met still practicing mormons and have been told by some the number in the US is dropping but foreign membership is rising mostly in South America.

Once a Mormon always a Mormon. In other words there are a lot of kids baptised and former Mormons who no longer practice the religion but you are considered part of the church unless you actively demand that you are removed from the books.

Not sure, but the Mormon Church continues to build chapels around the world at a pretty strong pace and I don't think any church can afford to build that kind of real estate unless they have members paying tithing and occupying those buildings.

What I have heard, that has been reported on Christian radio is, the LDS-Mormon church is fast growing in the US, the JH church is fast growing especially in Europe. I've noticed a lot of Catholic converts to JH.

I think it is proportionate to the number of new internet users who buy their own computers each year. I have gotten several nice e-mails from Mormons who have seen my Q+A and want info on how to leave the church, which I happily give them.

I'm almost certainly its growing not declining. Here we have a big Mormon college. And they are expanding by a fair amount to accommodate all the extra students within the next few years.

I have not had a good experience with this church. I consider it a corporation really. I tend to think that most of anything they say is a lie, It surprises me really that from what I understand from ex mormons that most of what they teach today is not even close to what Joseph smith started and is not really worshiping God or Jesus as much as it is Joseph. Lost a dear friend to this religion. Her Bishop told her to stop talking to her Christian Friends because we questioned things. I thought that they are suppose to be able to stand up to questioning. Guess not.

Add me to the list that has left, I still haven't wrote an official letter, I don't plan to yet, but since I feel like they are not going to ever leave me alone, this might be my only option, or be excommunicated.
