In your car, smoke with windows down. In general, smoke in well-ventilated areas or outside only. That's what I do. I also wash my hands after every cigarette

While in the car, roll the window down and have a bottle of Febreze or an air freshener in there. Carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer, moist towelettes, or lotion with you to take the smell off your hands/skin. And for your clothes, get a spray bottle and put about 1½-2 inches of liquid fabric softener in it(depending on the height of the bottle) and fill it the rest of the way with water, then spray yourself with that for a quick fix. When washing your clothes, I've heard that putting a cap-full of Scope Mouthwash in the washing machine helps take out the heavy smell of smoke.

There isn't a way to get rid of it completely. As a non-smoker, I can smell it really badly. There is a girl who lives with us who smokes, and she goes out in the middle of the night to smoke. When she comes back in I can smell it straight away.

If you smoke outside at home or work, don't go back in as soon as you finish smoking. Stay outside for a few minutes and let the smell clear a bit before going back inside. Try some smokers tooth paste and gum for breath. I think there are products specifically for cigarette smells now too.

you can't hide it. I don't smoke and when I'm in a smoking environment my hair and clothes reek of cigarette smoke and I haven't even smoked.

The only way to hide it is to change your clothes and have a shower then gargle your throat then maybe you could try to fool someone but why do you have to hide the practice. Is it worth all the trouble?

It's tough, there's nothing you can do except smoke less.
Wash your hands after, chew gum. Wash your jacket often. Don't put on cologne after, that will be too much. Hair spray is ok, doesn't really hide it though, just helps your hair not stink.
If it's really important, like before a job interview, don't smoke after you shower.

Actually only other smokers think that Fabreeze or whatever gets the smell out. Most non-smokers can smell the stale smoke smell under the Fabreeze or colonge or mouthwash. Yuck. Sorry, I don't think that's what you wanted to hear, but really we can tell you smoke by your smell.

I don't think you should be hiding the fact that you smoke. Smoking isn't illegal (yet) and it is your choice. Have the courage of your convictions: smoke and be proud. You might end up being a role model for other closet smokers.

On your clothes you can use some kind of strong de cologne, like Dior Addict, which is pleasant and will hide the tobacco smell. In your car you must use some kind of deodorant, and you will find plenty in the stores, choose which you like the best.Wash your hair daily, try to use some fragrant gel or special
product on it, on your skin use deodorant after the daily shower, use matching after shave on your face and use bubble gum.Good luck!

Febreeze for your car and clothes.
shampoo and conditioner for your hair
Dove or Irish Spring ( love the smell ) is good for the skin.
Crest whitestrips for your teeth
chew gum all the time ( it will also curb your habit )

Why is it only 20 years ago nobody could smell smoke, nobody was really bothered by it?
You could smoke in movie theaters and nobody complained. I'm not saying it's good or bad. I'm saying most people couldn't smell smoke in those days (if they did, why didn't they complain?)
Do people have more sensitive noses now?
