holy crap, i didn't know it was that bad. i'll try to get rid of it. i thought it would just go away since it came from old plants or whatever. i thought it was different than that oil that kills water birds and stuff!

Yes it is wrong to dispose of it in the backyard. There are environmental regulation for the disposing of oil to prevent harming the wildlife. It is a bit more troublesome than disposing it in your back yard, but it is taken care of better. The oil is now running through the creek and birds, fish and other animals are going to drink it and become sick from it. And eventually, you and I will be drinking this as well. How can you fix it? I really don't have the answer for that. You might call a wildlife ranger in your area to give you advice and come to your house and see.

Very bad for wildlife! The ecosystem is very important, and burrying it in your backyard...but for worse, putting it in the creek will kill some organisms. I dont know how to give you any advice but just to dispose of oil in some other way.

oil is the longest lasting contaminant we know
plastics can take hundreds of years if its good quality.
silicone and oil is forever
millions of years
What you are talking about is eco criminal
the oil kills mosquitos and fish and in turn kils who ever eats them
you can only fix it by digging it up and burying it deeply far away from the creek although this is also very bad
To bury it near the creek was exsremely anti Environment and dumb

Yes it's bad. You should take old oil to a service station for disposal. I probably would report it without taking the blame because you might get fined. Call your city and find out who to call.

Hey, don't waste our time with questions that have obvious answers.
It is a Federal Offense with a hefty fine and possible jail not to mention the oil goes into the water system and all life in it.

Put the orange juice in the hole, and the oil on your Frosted Flakes.
Seriously, that was a bad thing. But, it's too late now to do anything about it.

A little oil is bad, but it'll balance out in time. You might want to dig it up and dispose of it properly, but it won't be the end of the world if you don't.
In the future, though, take the oil up to your nearest auto parts store (AutoZone, Oreilly's) and dispose of it there. They have huge tanks for you to pour it in and everything.
Hope this helps!

No, it's perfectly fine. The fish and wildlife love a good dose of oil in their daily lives. Gives them some energy for thir mornings!
