My original question is what is the ballpark jail time for someone who gets caught stealing clothes and doesn't pay the fine? Also wondering if there is a website listing various offenses and jail times for those offenses.
Thank you very much for your answers.

Is up to the judge, but yes you can do jail time. How much will depend on the value of the merchandise and your criminal record. Besides the jail time you will have to pay the fine which can go pretty high in some jurisdictions like California (even is the price is 5cents the fine is several thousands dollars).

There is no site for crimes and sentences because every jurisdiction have different laws and different judges can use their discretion on sentencing (one judge might give you the minimum, some days in jail or probation and a fine but another can give you the maximum, some weeks or months in jail plus the fines).

If the clothes are worth less than $1000, I would suspect there won't be any jail time at all. This seems more like a fine and probation.

Jail time depends on the gravity of the offense you committed and aggravating or mitigating circumstances that are presented in court.

well if you've never been in trouble you might get off on probation but if you violate your probation you might get 6months. if you get early release then and you get caught again you will be going in for twice the inital time

stupid not to pay the fine. it's called petty theft. and you only serve like a month.
