Will the cot and the favoritism that WILL CONTINUE IN TIME THIS YEAR, cause fans to turn them off? and will the IRL have a resurgence in popularity because of the free coverage. I really enjoyed the split screen today. I don't have cable or sat, so I watched IRL in Iowa. what do you think?

I believe that the COT will contribute to nascar losing the old fan base. Now, we do not have a model nor make to root for. The COT'S are all the same car and I said some 5 or 6 yars ago, the France family would come to this. No more Chev's, Ford's, or Dodge's. Just a manufactured car that has a diff name plate on it. It really sucks. I mean if one template fits all the cars, then why the h*** do we even call them a Chev, Ford or Dodge. Notice that I left Toyota out of this because they should never have been allowed to enter nascar to start with. It is not an AMREICAN STOCK car.

I doubt it. Without domination it would not give those fans something to talk about all the time. IRL is not the same to me as Nascar. Americans want American drivers. IRL is filled with drivers from all over, their races last half as long, most of everything that is done on the car can be done by a computer, they dont rub up agaisnt each other, and damage can end their day.

With Nascar they bang into each other, 99% of them are Americans, if the car needs work its done by the crew not by computer, and if there is some damage on the car they slap some tape on it and call it good!

I watch the IRL when nothing else is on, but to me its just not the same. I dont see the Nascar fans going anywhere... IRL is a little too different for most of them. The main reason I watching IRL is to see Miss Patrick beat some of those guys.

I love Nascar and Hendricks, and if they were finishing last in all the races I would still be watching. I enjoy watching it even when my guys are not doing so great.

Their ratings have already dropped some. I haven't watched the COT races because that car looks stupid. This isn't fast n the furious. These cars are designed to go fast. I'd rather watch the IRL. It's much better racing and you don't have commercials every two laps and the commercial breaks don't last a half hour either. You don't hear the IRL not allowing a certain sponsor because it conflicts with something. They don't change the rules every 5 minutes or change the name of the series every few years.

"Tracy feels it is the accessibility of the drivers which set them apart from their NASCAR counterparts." This one sentence pretty much tells you how far off he is. Indy has long been ripped apart for not having accessible drivers and NASCAR has been praised for it. If you can get a pit pass easier at Indy races, it's probably because you can get tickets easier in general. The Indy 500 is the only Indy race I'd even think about attending, and I'm honestly not sure I'd go to that one. His comments don't really bother me, but I'd pay more attention if he'd just said he didn't like NASCAR and why rather than tried some cheap shots. But luckily I don't care one bit what he really thinks. Ironically, just about everything he says about NASCAR is what I've thought about Indy racing forever. There is no real racing in Indy cars. Tracy couldn't even make it in the Busch series, so I guess he still feels bitter about that like he does about that lost Indy 500.

Only two ways I can see it decline.

1) if they get to restrictive on what teams can do to the cars (COT rules getting excessive??) and end up forceing all the teams to run identical body styles like in the IROC series. A template is fine with certain areas off limits, but wing-mountings, fender areas, etc being forced to be just so, now thats starting to get crazy.

2) Having to many racing broadcast on cable/sattalite only networks. I think this is the reason that the Truck series hasn't caught on like it could have--the entire schedule is predominately on SPEED, and I think the Busch races will have a drop in ratings this year due that their on ESPN2 for the majority (if not all of) the year. I can see a couple of races on cable networks, but if where on NBC, ABC, CBS, or FOX, then more people will catch all three series.

Despite all the drama this season I believe NASCAR will continue to grow strong. However after Friday's "make up the rules in the garage" stunt; it seems they are creating some drama of their own to heighten mid-season attendance and viewership.

If anything, I think the Fans are growing increasingly angry with NASCAR not being clear with the rules and then penalizing Teams for "grey area" violations (violating rules not on the book, simply up to NASCAR's discreation). They are also growing angry over NASCAR's inconsitence in rules enforcement.

I am not a Fan of Junior's but they do seem the levy the heaviest fines and penalties against him. With Junior being the Fan favorite, it's like NASCAR is shooting itself in the foot. Yes, it needs rules and enforcement of those rules; but they need to be more consistent and fair.

Matt Kennseth has been caught diliberrately cheating throughout the 05-07 season in both NEXTEL and Busch; and yet he has suffered minimal fines, minimal lose of points, and no suspensions. While DEI, Hendricks, and RCR got slammed hard over "grey area" violations.

People keep crying that NASCAR is showing favoritism to Chevy; but it is the Chevy Teams that are getting the most violations levied against it; the largest fines; largest point deductions; and most suspesions. Ford seems to get away with murder, and their violations are not as highly publicized.
So much for NASCAR favoring Chevy; if anything they beat on Chevy more then any other Team.

yes it will the COT su#ks
TNT is playing more commercials then fox (never thought that was possible)
nascar makes up rules as it goes(let the teams work on the cars as long as they fit the templates or rename series iroc)
and put the points back like they used to be cant stand the fact that all teams start even in the chase except for bonuses for wins that means you can have a inconsitent year with a few wins and start in first

While I do foresee a rise in IRL's popularity, I do not se a decline in NASCAR's Popularity. I do se the ultimate demise of Champ Car World Series eventually. I also see a rise in F1 interest if this rookie keeps up his dominance.

No, a lot more people are going to be tuning in next year to see how Dale Jr. fares with a new team. The COT will not be a factor next season, because fans will be used to it after this season.
