Meditation is a process to calm and bring the mind to a state of restful peace and tranquility.
Prayer (True Prayer) is that process that allows a (True Believer) to observe the things that are not available through mans present senses.
I first came across this when I was in India and observed several Yogis, Swamis, and other so called holy people,
discoursing, on their inability to locate the creator of all things.
The "Wisdom" is available to accomplish this task, if one is diligent and their determination is unwavering. Finding a wise person, that can be a guide, is only possible if the wise person finds you!
In answering your question, it is possible, yet meditation is the first stage in an ongoing sojourn into the spiritual world!
Meditation is just a primer..............

It is because of fires of hell that you are able to meditate. Suppose you suddenly find yourself in a house that is on fire
what do you do then, do you think about how to escape the fire or do you take the action, you simpy get out without thinking.
Meditation is getting out. The reason you can not meditate is because you see this world as world of pleasure. If you saw this world as world of pain and suffering then you would not look for ways or techniques to meditate, you would simply meditate.
The reason you are asking this questioin "will meditation..."
is because you are not seeing the suffering that exists here
Think this way you are in a house on fire and you ask someone will getting out of the house save me from getting burned.
This world is a house on fire. but we are enjoying. We are fools. Hypnotized fools.
Don't look for techniques, simply develop an eye to see the reality here which is full of suffering.

If you really mastered meditation techniques to such a high degree, you probably wouldn't end up in hell (if you believe in hell). Most people, in theory, who would end up in hell would lack the discipline and focus to develop any type of meditation to such an advanced degree.

However, the Hebrew and Greek and Aramaic writers used 4 different words to denote H*ll in the Bible and those words are:
1) Tartarus - used 1x in the Bible
2) Hades - used 10x in the Bible
3) Gehenna - used 12x in the Bible
4) Sheol - used 66x in the Bible
Each of these words DENOTED A DIFFERENT KIND OF HELL (look it up on Wikipedia). However, when "translated" (badly) by Englishmen, they simply made them all "H*ll." WRONG! Each one means something DIFFERENT!!! And they WERE SUPPOSED TO MEAN SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
Gehenna' is a word tracing to Greek, ultimately from the Hebrew: Gehinnom also Gei-ben-Hinnom meaning 'Valley of Hinnom.' The valley, which forms the southern border of ancient Jersualem, is first mentioned in Joshua 15:8. Originally it referred to a garbage dump in a deep narrow valley right outside the walls of Jerusalem (in modern-day Israel) where the fires were kept burning to consume the trash and keep down the stench of the bodies thrown in. It is also the location where bodies of the executed ciminals, or individuals denied a proper burial would be dumped, with lye and sulfur thrown in to cover the stench. Today, Gehenna is often used as a "synonym" for Hell.

Christianity's Tartarus: In the Bible, 2 Peter 2:4, Tartarus is designated as a section of Hades that the Fallen Angels who had produced the Nephilim (Genesis 6:4) were cast into to await judgment by God. It does not figure prominently into the doctrines of Christianity; many translations of the Bible insert Hell in the place of Tartarus. No other specific use of the word Tartarus is in the Bible, however, Jude 6 describes the abode of the same fallen angels mentioned in 2 Peter as "total darkness."

Hades - The unseen world, translated hell in A.V., Matthew 11:23, 16:18; Luke 10:15;16:23; Acts 2:27, 31; Rev. 1:18; 6:8; 20:13, 14. See Hell. It eventually came to designate the abode of the dead.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/hades...
Sheol - is the Hebrew language word denoting the "abode of the dead"; the "underworld", "the common grave of mankind" or the "pit." It is also transliterated (not translated, but comes out as) Sheh-ole, in Strong's Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries AND Strong's Concordances. In the Hebrew Bible it is portrayed as a cormfortless place BENEATH the earth, beyond gates, where both the GOOD AND THE BAD, slave and king, PIOUS AND WICKED MUST GO AFTER DEATH TO SLEEP IN SLIENCE AND OBLIVION IN THE DUST. In some sources, for example, in Deuteronomy 32:22, Sheol seems to be synonymous with the "depths of the earth." Sheol is the "common destination of both the righteous and the unrighteous dead; the righeous Job sees it as HIS DESTINATION (Job 3). In the Book of Job, while Satan is portrayed as tormenting and testing the living he does NOT appear to have any particular Presidency over Sheol (hell), or to actually Dwell in Sheol.

There is a 5th destructive force, however it cannot be classified as "h*ll." It is "the Lake of Fire" (in The Book of Revelation, Chapter 20:14). Lets consider the story of Ananias and his wife Sapphira (Acts, Ch. 5) who both sinned against the Holy Spirit (Ghost). They sold some land and gave "all" to the brothers and sisters in the congregation and bragged about doing so. THEY LIED. They held some back for themselves, which was HONESTLY THEIR RIGHT as the owners of the property! However, their mistake was bragging they GAVE IT ALL. When questioned a 2nd time if they actually DID give it all, Ananias lied again and said "yes" and then dropped dead from the "2nd death" that is from lying to the Holy Spirit. Sapphira, not knowing what happened was brought in and asked the same question, she also lied (again, all she had to do was say, no, we kept part because its our right and she would have been correct), but instead, she too lied to the Holy Spirit and she too dropped dead from the 2nd death, that is from lying or denying the Holy Spirit.
These two individuals will NOT receive a resurrection according to Revelation 20:14, as they will suffer eternal destruction. Meaning they will be "as before they were born." Neither suffering nor knowing anything.
Here in Rev. 20:14 we see where "death and Hades" are BOTH thrown INTO the Lake of Fire, the 2nd Death, the Lake of Fire, to be destroyed eternally!!! So, we see that the Lake of Fire is symbolic for eternal destruction. Much the same way Gehenna was for the destruction it caused! Nothing that goes in comes out. EVEN DEATH will be no more!
SO WE SEE HERE, THERE "IS" NO BURNING HELL IN THE BIBLE. The only time it was mentioned was in a "parable" (or a story used to tell a story), of the Rich man and Lazarus.

sigh.
Only being saved (accepting Jesus Christ and believing in him) can protect you from the fires of hell and everlasting darkness. I know i'm going to heaven when i die.
Meditation is good for relieving stress and having a clear, focused mind. thats about it.
