Yeah, that goes for other beliefs as well, but I agree...
I personally come here, because I find diversity in opinions, so if I want to know about something, I find more then one answer to it. (and to answer some questions I know).
God bless you for being who you are.
Peace.

If only all Christians believed this way. There seems to be a paranoid exclusionary mentality going on in churches. Some churches put down other churches. Some preachers preach that non-believers are traitors and rebels who deserve to die and will go to hell very shortly to keep their parisioners in line like sheep in a cage.
Unbelievers don't make good financial contributors and can cause dissension in their church that causes them to lose followers. Yes, it comes from the Bible but they miss the true message.
There would be fewer angry atheists that hate Christianity if they didn't feel tortured by them for what they believe or don't believe. But Christians aren't going to stop persecuting non christians because they would rather eliminate non believers then end up questioning their own beliefs
This is not the world that Christ intended it to be. We have the power to bring about the paradise that we all long for but we're too busy arguing. Look at all the parables that talk about forgiveness and mercy and loving God as Love! We miss the point of what God is really trying to say when we start talking about armageddon and hell.

brett, are you really going to try debate that? many people say "there is no god" in a condescending manner when the question doesnt ask whether there is a god or not.
It's easy to be harsh when you think you are right, and when the opponent seems completely wrong. Also this is the internet, you cant learn much from a message board so there are many better places to seek spiritual truth. I come here for flame wars.
How do you grow spiritually, if not defined by a religion? is it just some way to feel good about how holy you are?
edit:
jonmcn is probably delusional, he thinks he is qualified to say nonathiests are delusional.

I hear ya - Spirituality (and I use the term loosely to include personal growth - because the word Spirit and Psych are both derived from the Greek "psyke") MUST be experiential - otherwise we have no idea what "truth" we are being asked to belief in.
I'm Spiritual Vagabond - I dont have a home under any one label, but I cherish personal growth and being connected with people, nature and myself....so I enjoy hearing people talk about their experiences, doubts, beliefs etc.
So many people on here use it as a mud flinging or proselytizing platform that a lot of value gets lost - and that's in the communication and relay of ideas....
No one has ever convinced me of anything by bashing me over the head, other than I dont want my head bashed.
Be well - Peace

Not all the atheist folks talk to me that way. In fact, several have answered my question in a friendly manner with well thought out arguments. However, some just call me idiot.
As far as you're statement about Christians, I haven't seen anything as harsh as your example. However, out of all the thousands and thousands of people in YA, I can believe it happens. I apologized to an atheist woman the other day for being unnecessarily rude to her, and she was gracious enough to accept the apology.

- 80% of Christians are blasphemous, intollerant hippocrites who haven't a clue that truth does NOT come from outside of themselves.
1) It was our fist mistake to believe we are seperated from God, which makes us feel guilty. Sort of a 'what if' moment. In reality, nothing could be farther from the truth.
2) This guilt translates to the next step in seperation as fear: I need to be in control or else no one will love me.
3) On down the list this is the ego (now superiority) speaking which manifest as all sorts of absurdities: I need to be right to make up for my self-condemnation. I exist therefore I need to be heard. Who are YOU to talk to me that way? Who are YOU to get that raise over me? Who are YOU to get more attention?
- Hindus believe that everything we are epxeriencing is GOD's mind while in a dream. Buddhism and Taoism + New AGE stress that we use our minds to choose our experiences and therefore, under all four, are able to reunite with GOD at any time.
- If we could somehow eliminate the idea the that we are seperated from GOD, then we would be that much closer to achieving world peace.

Shalom to you.
Thank you for what you wrote.
I think there are two answers.
One answer is that not everything in a garage is a car.... and not everyone calling themselves "Christian" here actually is.
Yeshua (Jesus) said that by their fruits we would know them... that by the way they treated others with kindness, honesty, purity, humility, gentleness, and integrity, people could tell a person who was a practicing believer from a 'wolf in sheep's clothing." Some people here are trying to build their self-esteem by tearing others down. That is not Yeshua's way. For G-d so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son. Yeshua did not come to condemn the world but to save it.
The second reason is we believers often need to grow up into the "measure of the stature of the fulness of the Son of G-d" and learn to be led by Him. Pride puffs up, but love builds up.
Motives count before the Holy One. He sees and knows who are His in truth, and who are unmarked graves pretending to be alive but spewing out death.

Please link me some links that says "There is no god and you are an idiot for believing in one" .....
As far as I know the lines is often then not "There is no proof of the existence of god." .... .if you think atheists thinks christians are idiots, then you are perhaps misguided. There are often very intelligent christians.
The only feeling is atheist thinks christians are delusional and christians thinks atheist are satan's child.
