What makes christian FUNDEMENTALISTS any different from the Westboro Baptist Church? They're the gang that have the websites godhatesamerica.com and godhatesfags.com
You know, they picket dead soldiers funerals. Not a nice bunch really, I think we can agree...
Anyway. My point is that they use Bible scripture very well. They know the bible inside out. They are actually intelligent people and can't be dismissed buy just saying that they're stupid, they're not. Crazy, yes, stupid, no.
Anyway, as I was saying, they use the bible and quote the bible to justify their hate. The name out the passages. What makes you any different from them?

OH COME ON PEOPLE!
I mean, what I'm saying is that it is totally disingenuous to quote scripture when debating theology as that same scripture can be used to justify such hate.
Understand?

classifying fundamentalists with the Westboro Baptist Church,
and calling them derogatory names, does not make you sound
like the best person to take advise from.

Any individual scripture can be interpreted in about as many different ways as there are people reading the scripture. Every body is going to read the passages differently and come away with a different meaning. If a happy person reads a paragraph, it will come out differently than if a sad, angry, or hateful person reads it. Fundies tend to want to learn the 'exact' scripture so they can smack other people around with their views of it. They think being able to quote it so elegantly makes them right. We all have to read it for ourselves, and make up our own mind about what it is saying. We can't put too much store into what someone else says is correct or incorrect. And just being able to quote a scripture for every occasion doesn't necessarily make someone look smarter, it may only make them seem Pious (with a capital P), and if they think they are winning any souls to Christ that way, they are just missing the whole point of Christianity.

I am a Fundamentalist Christian and I am a soldier. I can tell you right now that those people at Westboro Baptist Church are in no way doing anything that God is a part of. I am ashamed that they call themselves Baptist, because I am a Baptist, and no one in my church would ever do what they are doing.
It is my belief that homosexuality is a sin, and it is wrong. However, picketing with signs that are, well, downright mean is not the way to get God's message across. There is a way to bring God's message that brings Him glory and there is a way that brings God shame. They bring Him shame.
I still have no idea why they picket soldiers funeral or what scripture they twist to justify that.
You said it though. They are crazy. I've called them, and I've had conversations with them. They bring shame to Christians. Trust me, God isn't within a million miles of what they are doing.

What the heck! Don't compare anyone, Christian or not, to that Westboro group! For starters, they are an insult to human kind. They are not Christian, so don't insult Christians by thinking that they represent the religion. They don't! And anyone with half a brain would realize that!
What makes us different from them is that we're not a cult! Christians don't picket soldiers' graves! We don't do the things that the Westboro cult does.
Anyone can quote the bible. I've seen Atheists quote the bible. By your logic, that makes them Christians. Hey, wait until I tell the Atheists on this board that if they quote the bible, they're Christian!
Try learning the difference between Christians and that cult. We're different.

First, I've said it before, I'll say it again. I would be honored if the Westboro Baptist Church would protest my funeral. I would be in the company of some very good people.
Second, You're being unfair. Fundamentalists believe in the literal truth of the Bible, but they don't necessarily use it as a weapon, nor do they necessarily use their belief to look down on people.
Certainly there are fundamentalists who do, and there are some churches that encourage them, but there are also people who are fundamentalists and are surprisingly accepting.

Better yet, what makes those so-called Christians with the website any better than the KKK? Anyone can pick and choose random scripture, put it together, and create some doctrine to justify their own hatred, or to advance their own agenda. The KKK call themselves Christians, too.
The bible specifically states that scripture is "of no private interpretation", yet I have heard countless people declare that "they think" it means this or that. Well, what you get when you interpret it any way you want is those nutjobs.
As Ghandi said about Christianity, "I love your Christ, but I hate your Christians, because they are so un-Christ-like".

Well I don't agree with the way they are doing it there is no point telling people how bad they are it is better to love people and show them Jesus and let them become more like Christ on their own. I would love to have a chat with the Westboro Baptist Church people.

We keep the Bible in the context in which it was written...
They also forget the one passage that Jesus lists the greatest commandments, that being Loving God and Loving People...
All of the verses that they spout out...out of context...are null and void in God's eyes. I believe that Westboro Baptist Church members will be sorry as they enter heaven...as they might hear the words of Matthew 7.

Somehow the word Fundamentalist became synonymous with Hypocrite. A person who stands by the real fundamentals of Christendom would not do these things.
