I don't like the auto cat boxes, but love the covered ones, keeps the smell contained and clean it a couple times a week. Be sure to put kitty in the litter box a few times so it knows where it's at and let it find it's way back,so it knows where to go back to to find it. Keep dried food & water availble to it at all times. Definately hit the vet to get it checked out and current on vaccinations and keep the little booger inside- so much safer for them and keeps fleas away. Never give it milk, it will cause upset stomach and diarreha. Cat's are self- sufficient, so no need to bathe it. Brushing it is nice to keep it's coat nice and clean and shiny (and they usually love it) well, maybe when it gets older, a kitten will probably want to play with the brush. Give a kitten some toys and string to pat around (but nothing so small it will eat it). And most importantly, love it to pieces and talk to it (I swear mine understands me sometimes)!! give it attention and play with it when you can- being a kitten you won't have much choice, it'll be all up in your business. Keep toilet lids closed, so curious kitty doesn't fall in. That's all I can think of for now. Good luck and have fun with it... your assured to fallin love with it.

Kittens are really pretty easy to raise. Cats are pretty easy to take care of as they pretty much take care of themselves.
Ok, first of all, you have a kitten, so you are going to want to give it kitten food to begin with. I would do that until it is 6 to 8 months old. You can give it some wet food in the morning and the evening, I would give it half a can at each seating. Then I would leave out some dry food for during the day and night nibbling. Also always make sure the kitten always has water out to drink, that is vitally important.
You need a litter box and litter. Although they are expensive I recommend the self cleaning litter boxes, they really make a difference in helping keep the smell down and in reducing the amount of time you have to clean the litter.
You need to get some toys for the kitten, get ones filled with catnip, the kitten will love them.
Mostly you need to learn to play with the kitten to get the kitten to know your smell so that it will recogonize you and come to you and be your friend.
One thing you should know is that it is best to keep the kitten indoors. It is not good to let a cat outdoors, they get all kinds of diseases and ticks. If you want the cat to live a happy long life, leave the cat as an indoor cat. Also, make sure that you take the cat to the vet on a regular schedule schedule for all the shots and get the cat fixed when it is time. usually 6 months.

If the kitten is older than 5 weeks and eats and poops on its own, go to the pet store and buy kitten food, like Royal Canin Baby cat or Hill's kitten etc. Get him a litter box and some toys, and a scratching post, where you should take him whenever he tries to scratch your carpets or furniture. Also, he must have de-worming medication appropriate to his age, and afterwards his vaccinations. A visit to the vet is essential.
If the kitten is younger than that, you still go to the pet store, you buy powder milk special for kittens, you feed it according to the instructions on teh box every 3-4 hours, and after feeding you rub his behind and his wee-wee softly with a wet cloth to stimulate it to pee aand poop. They don't poop every time they eat, they poop once a day or so, but they pee every time.

be prepared to laugh your butt off at some of it's antics. (our first kitten explored the bathroom and fell in the toilet bowl)
spay/neuter at 6 mths old
just because something is put up high, doesn't mean the kitten won't find it
little paws move quick and get under feet.
anything can become a toy.
if a indoor cat, start clipping toe nails early to get them used to it.
anywhere and everywhere is a ideal nap place.
don't let it play in or near dryer ( a friend accidently killed her kitten when it went into dryer)
be prepared most of all to be wrapped around it's little paw and melt when it looks up at you with those loving eyes.

what age is this kitten ? was it eating dry or can food before you got it ? That is a good start. Kittens can play with toys bought in a store but you can make your own as well. My cat LOVES gift wrap !! He goes nuts at Xmas time. I have a scratch box for him as well and soft balls for him to batt around. He is 7 years old and on Dry food. Please if your cat is Male ..get him neutured before 6 months of age. Once they spray..ewwww... it stinks up the house. A neutured cat is a happier and healthier cat. Hope this helps

Buy an automatic litter box, do NOT ever give it milk, and spay/neuter it as soon as it's old enough. Keep it vaccinated, and give it lots of love!
