This is for Yeow Teng K

Whenever we come across a difficult situation in our life, we often complain - "God, why this is happening only to me? Why I am alone suffering from this pain?" See the funny part. We never ask such questions when we are happy! We never say - "God, why I am happy? or why I am alone getting this happiness?".

What we are today is the result of our past Karma and what we are going to be tomorrow is also decided by our Karma today. The Law of Karma is ever at work. If you do some Karma you are going to get its fruit. Our Karma creates cycle of birth and death. Karma can be burnt only by experiencing their results. They can not be skipped. Some people say that we are bound by our "fate" or "luck". However, in reality there is nothing called fate or luck. Everything is the outcome of our past and present Karmas.

Some people do not believe in reincarnation. They say that the current life is what to be enjoyed. Who knows about past lives and future lives? However this argument can not explain the contrast in our lives. We often see people who do good to others but themselves suffer from great pains. Why are two children of the same mother are so different? One brilliant and the other dull? Why is that one is stronger than other? Why there is so much inequalities in the society? One can not answer these questions without Law of Karma and theory of reincarnation.

The fact that our life is governed by our Karma is a great relief to all of us. This is so because we can control our Karma which in turn will control our life. If you do good today you will get pleasurable fruits whereas your wrong deeds give you sorrow.

Now the answer:
The theory of Karma is common to many oriental religions. In its most popular form it states that there is a universal accounting system in which each individual must experience the consequences of all his actions (Karmas); good actions bring good results and bad actions inevitably result in suffering to the one who does them. The theory also states that the consequences of actions (also known as Karmas) need not necessarily be experienced in the present life, they can be carried over into future lives. Because of this, several sub-divisions of Karma have been postulated. The following classification, which was used by Sri Ramana Maharshi, is common to many Hindu schools of thought.

Sanchita Karma. The store of Karmic debts accumulated from previous births.
Prarabdha Karma. That part of one’s Sanchita Karma which must be worked out in the present life. Because the law of Karma implies determinism in human activities, Prarabdha is often translated as destiny.
Agami Karma. New Karma accumulated in the present lifetime which is carried forward into future lives.
Sri Ramana Maharshi accepted the validity of the laws of Karma but said that they were only applicable as long as a person imagined that he was separate from the Self. At this level (the level of the ajnani or the ignorant), he said that individuals will pass through a series of pre-ordained activities and experiences, all of which are the consequences of previous acts and thoughts. He occasionally even said that every act and experience in a person’s life is determined at birth and that the only freedom one has is to realise that there is no one acting and no one experiencing. However, once one realises the Self there is no one left to experience the consequences of actions and so the whole structure of Karmic laws then becomes redundant.

Sri Ramana regarded the law of Karma as a manifestation of God’s will. He said that prior to Self-realisation there is a personal God, Iswara, who controls each person’s destiny. It is Iswara who has ordained that everyone must suffer the consequences of his actions and it is Iswara who selects the sequences of activities that each person must undergo in each lifetime. One cannot escape from Iswara’s jurisdiction while one still identifies with the activities of the body. The only way to become free of his authority is to transcend Karma completely by realising the Self.

So in conclusion--

Karma is the cause of our present situation
Your Karma returns pleasure or sorrow
Pleasure and sorrow are two sides of the same coin
Sorrow can be avoided only by avoiding pleasure

Karma is a belief by quite a few eastern religions including the Buddhist, Hindus, Taoist and some others.

You are talking under the precept there has to be "a lord" to design the karmas. In fact, some of these religions does not even believed in a god :P.

Therefore it would be wise to put down in the context of which religion are you talking about.

I have a strong belief in this let me answer this in this way.

Many people say there are three reasons for karma

1. Gods Gift
2. By itself.
3. Cause and Effect

If it was Gods gift does it mean that God design that some needs to be happy and some one needs to be sad, or some one needs to be tall or someone needs to be short. God has no time for this he is already in Moksha and if he does this he would again bring karma on his soul, so the first theory is wrong.

2. If karma happens by itself when does that come in rise(uday) and how does that be stopped and what is the impact and how to over come that and can we stop this karma theory which is not possible so second also no

3. Cause and effect

YES! this is perfect answer, for every karma there is a cause like for example if i criticize anyone who is short or anyone who is black by nature i would give birth to one karm called mohniya karm which would add this in my account and that would come in rise in my next birth i may become like that, even likewise if i criticize someone who is teaching me, in my next birth how much ever i try to learn something leaves us behind, it does happen with all of us that some take whole life to learn but finds hard to get it and some just at a glance learns things faster than those who spent much time on it.This is called Gyan karma we have given birth to it. Sometimes we by no reason get into some health problems this is called vedinaya karma( this also we only gave birth by criticising others health issues)
Likewise we also have something darshan karma like we are very keen to see some person a personality but alas just left or hes not come to us thats darshan karma.

To sumarize the whole thing its our karma which takes to good direction or bad, how do we take things we get that way, how did we react the same gets repeated.
if u r intersted more on karma theory there are lots of books i can give u.

I feel, every action which happen on earth is by the desire of Almighty. Nothing moves without HIS consent, not even grass. And Karmas are what we have to go through to pay for the misdeeds in the past. That's how the word "accountability" comes into picture. We should just think we are accountable to god and we should not bother to convince or prove how good we are. His court & his judgement is final.

Newtons 3rd law states that
Every Action has Equal and opposite reactions.

If u do good u will get good, if u do bad u will get bad, not necessary from the person with whom u have done good/bad.

It is the invisible, Gods, way of playing this game, the calculation if u analyse on any person whom u know thoroughly is always 100% accurate.

e.g Saddam Hussain - did a lot of bad thing which u may have read in the rews papers/net, he got back the same, his death was delayed because some good were alos done by him.

Our karma is based on impressions on our consciousness. What emotions we are feeling influences our intention when we choose an action and karma gets embedded in our system based on that. We are born with 2 kinds - kind we can change and kind we can't. We have to work to overcome the changeable portion.
