my friend wants to open a dog farm, but i told him I'm not sure it's legal here. He said it should be since we can eat other types of meat. but then he became worried because he's thinking that maybe americans don't eat dog/cat meat because it's against christianity (the thou shall not kill). He said that if it's not against christianity, then all it takes is to taste a good black dog, and they'll be convinced tht it's gr8. But if there's a law or it's against the Christianity then he doesn't want to try.

ilove12gods, i hope you are a vegetarian for saying such strong statements. All animals are equal in my eyes, and everyone around the world has some kind of animal pet, and also they eat so many of the same.

amitotomar, your quote from the bible excludes all other forms of meat as well. (?) If my understanding is correct, why do Christians eat animal meat? now im confused more.

I see other quotes saying that the bible says we can eat meat which is not considered unclean..

these are two contradictory statements
i.e. one saying it's ok to eat clean meat and the other saying that herbs, seeds and greens to be our "meat"

Someone please reconcile?

mama bear, is the quote that every herb bearing seed... etc. in the new or old testament?

mata I am curios about these 7th day adventists. They must take the words like the ones amitotomar quoted seriously. i wonder if there are more quotes about not eating of meat in Christianity teaching.

Also I have looked at some old yahoo answers on the difference between the old and new testament, and it would seem that if the new testament said that we should be peace-loving vegetarians, then that is what real Christians would follow, since it seems to be that Jesus brought with Him a kind forgiving picture of God, and sacrificed Himself instead of having animal sacrifices.

hmmmm..lets..seeee
" And God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat"; and it was so. And God saw every thing that He had made, and behold, it was very good.

Nope looks like a negative to me! No dog meat mentioned in the Bible. Maybe your friend can be a fruit vendor.

p.s. Guess all those so called Christians are also not fallowing the Bible, because cow and pig meat, is also not mentioned.
Who says Thou shall not kill... only applies to humans? It would say, Thou shall not commit murder of humans, if that were true.

By the way ANY kind of BLOODY meat, is UNclean!!! Dont eat things with Buttholes is my motto.

As far as I know, there is no Christian law against it...of course, I could be wrong on this (and I hope I am).
That said, I gotta tell you, I don't think raising dogs for meat is gonna go over too well in the United States. I'm fairly sure the USDA would not approve, and even if they did, it would be pretty hard to find a grocery store that would carry it.
You sure won't find very many customers to buy it, although you might manage to get it into some of the sleazier fast food places, and maybe a Korean joint or two.
But it is my guess that your friend will either convert to a nice kennel, where he raises puppies to be sold as pets, or go bankrupt...within the first year.

Technically, it is not against any Christian/Biblical law to eat dog/cat meat... but I will tell you... GOOD LUCK in trying to SELL it in the American market! There are few people I know who would not be upset at the idea of eating "Fluffy" or "Fido" on their plate at night!!!! It sickens them because they feel cats/dogs are like part of the family, and eating a family member is not a very "tasteful" idea!

Technically, dog and cat meat are NOT on the "Kosher" list--foods listed as acceptable under Old Testament law. Jews (and Moslems also) will not eat animals considered "unclean" in the scriptures.

"Thou shalt not kill" really applies to humans; it is a prohibition against murder. Acceptable/unacceptable meats are found in later portions of Deuteronomy.

Skipping to the New Testament, the OT "Kosher" laws do not apply to Christians, so morally, your friend does not have a problem.

Health-department-wise, your friend may have a problem! Dogs and cats are recognized as pets and carnivores, not as livestock for meat in this country (USA). If your friend wants to raise and sell mutts for certain restaurants (such as Vietnamese or Korean menus) uses, he may find it difficult. He should definately check with his local Department of Agriculture and the Health Department before investing in the market, assuming he can find one!

Taboos against dog meat (and cat meat) are usually cultural. Most white Americans think of dogs and cats as pets (think "animal people") and have the same revulsion against eating their meat as they would cannibalism. IF the practice is legal in the US, THEN your friend will simply have to find a heavily South-East Asian market to supply.

I am not a christian/i AM AN ATHEIST but I say no! if you are from another country and you want to practice something like that so be it!
but don't come here and do something that is against my practice because I will haul him, to court so quick he wont even have time to sneeze! currently it is not legal because it is not life stock! KILLING A DOG FOR THAT REASON IS ANIMAL CRUELTY AND CURRENTLY NOT LEGAL!

maybe your friend can go back where he came from and never look back- that would be the best for all of us! FREAK!

i AM IMPRESSED THAT YOU ACTUALLY ARE SO NONCHALANT ABOUT WHAT YOUR FRIEND WANTS TO DO! LETS KILL DOLPHINS AN BABIES TOO ! THERE IS MORE THEN ENOUGH FOOD AND HE HAS TO KILL COMPANIONS FOR DINNER?????

EVEN IF YOU ARE A TROLL THIS ISN'T EVEN FUNNY!

NO, we are not to eat anything that is unclean. Read the dietary laws in the book of Leviticus, in the Old Testament, times have changed but unclean is still unclean.

Dogs and cats are companions, help or work animals. A person who would eat such is very sick.

Just another animal, but it's the thought of eating something that here has been considered as a pet for so long is something the majority will not take to. Maricely, God says all things are clean to eat if we give thanks with the exception of blood, your talking Levitical Law which Christians are not under.

no it is not ok. and not because of the thou shalt not kill commandment. let's think logically for a second please. if christians wouldn't want to eat anything that was killed because of that commandment, would we have hamburgers, and hot dogs, and all the other favorite american meals? no. The reason you cannot eat a dog or cat is because in the bible we are given a list of animals we can eat and dogs and cats are not on there.
