I'm just asking because I've always been very curious about how a dead body smells.

Strange question. A dead human body smells much different from a dead dog body. The human body smells strongly of blood and urine. When rigomortis kicks in the body develops gases that push the bodily fluids out causing the smell. Since the human body carries more fluids than the dogs the smell is much stronger. Humans also have the ability to sweat through the pores which causes the smell to excrete through them as well while being sealed inside the dog body having limited space to escape through.

Most dead stuff smells about the same...TERRIBLE!!!
I have a friend who deer hunts, It doesn't smell too bad until He Guts the deer, and then Holy Heck it smells. My cats bring home mice, kill them and leave them in the basement for me to find! Same deal, as soon as I touch the bodies to put them in the trash, YEUW!!!!!!!!!!!! All death smells strong! Bad and Unnatural, it is not the way it was suppose to be.

Well, left out and untreated, yeah, it probably does. In fact, that was one reason the practice of having flowers at wakes was for. But today we clean up and embalm the dead bodies (those not left out) and even refrigerate them. So things are much better than just stuffing their pockets will a dozen car air fresheners.

On a lighter note. A colleague and I had to pick up a dead body once. It folded in two and farted! My mate dropped his end and ran, leaving me doubled up with laughter!

death pretty much smells the same for all animals. It is a sickly sweet smell, kind of like warm moldy cheese or something. If you've ever had a rat die behind your fridge or something, it smells just like that.
