If this young lady don't have a reputation of lying you can only believe this until it's proven not to be true. I would suggest to her that even thou she don't wont treatment she should still go to the doctor and find out what stage the cancer is in, or if it has went into remission and offer to go with her. If she refuses I would still be her friend and not say anything else to her about it. time will tell.

I have no idea if she is lying or not. I agree with the person that said to mention it to the parents and watch their reaction.
However, I understand why if it is true she would refuse treatment. It could uncurable for one. If there is no chance of curing, then its not worth going through the treatments, especially when so young.
Or the treatment for her cancer could be worse than the cancer itself. Or she may really just be terrified of the treatments. Older people tend to have more problems, perhaps she has seen someone older go through it and die. However, any cancer patient going through treatment will become sick. Some treatments are way worse than others.

you know, it's really hard to say what's going on here. About 7 years ago my best friend at the time had been diagnosed with cancer, you can imagine how I felt. I did everything I could for her to try and make what little bit of life she had left livable well lo and behold one night I have to take her to the emergency room for another matter and it was revealed that her cancer was a lie, she never had it, she made it up just to get attention. Well later on she really did get cancer and is now dead. People do lie about some strange things but see what happens when they do?

If your friend's attitude about cancer is she doesn't want to get treated because she will get sick...she needs to get educated about treatments. Sure chemo makes you feel like cr#% but the alternative is to become sicker and die in lots of pain. I would go through surgery chemo and radiation all over again and again.
I've been there and done that...it isn't so bad,,,sort of like being pregnant and going through morning sickness and labor. Once it's done you forget the discomfort until the next time...

I doubt she has Cancer. Maybe you should ask her though. or if you really want to find out and asking her isn't an option, next time your at her house. go up to her mom or dad and say "(whatever your friends name is) told me she has cancer a few days ago..its so sad.." see what her parents reaction is. If they say i know and go along, she probably does have cancer. If they are shocked to hear you say that, she probably doesn't.
