It has to grow out - you probably damaged the nail bed.
Buffers will help, but don't use the 'even out' side more than once a month, because it will make them weaker. I keep a buffer by the phone, in my car [ traffic jams ] and on my desk.
Scrubbing toenails with a nailbrush will stimulate circulation, too.
Lots of us are good at causing damage to toes and fingernails - try vitamins for skin, hair, and nails. Make sure shoes fit properly, and wear sneakers for rough terrain or games [ vs. sandals or flip flops. ]

Apply olive oil or Vitamin E oil everyday or right before u sleep. U can also apply Vaseline (petroleum jelly) over toenails and wear socks while sleeping. It will keep your toenails looking smooth and nice. See the difference!

For starters I would go to a Podiatrist (Foot Doc) to make sure that there aren't any underlying issues that are health related as to why your nails are unusual. Sometimes our nails can be indicators of other problems. Then, if that checks out okay, I'd go get a pedicure. Guys can get them too!
