Yes it is possible to volunteer in the ER at a hospital, where I live anyways. I have trained many volunteers for that department. They do have a lot of fun and enjoy the fast pace. It can get pretty hectic and confusing for them at times but overall they really enjoy it. No they do not ware a uniform, just their regular clothes with a name tag stating they are a volunteer. They run blood to the labs, pick-up ex-rays and drop off blood results to either the major or minor dept. in the ER along with other jobs.

People can volunteer at the local hospital. But I'm pretty sure they don't allow volunteers in the emergency room. They would get in the way. It is not fun. Trauma can be death.

Eons ago when I was in the medical field we have ER volunteers that helped at the front desk but all personel in the back was staff. It is nothing like on TV.
I was in a county hospital and was pretty crazy but I loved and miss it still.

I don't know of anyone who volunteers in the ER - usually it's too fast paced and the stakes are too high for amateurs.

I'm sure it is possible in some places, but with the new privacy laws in place I think it would be pretty hard and risky on the hospital's side.
